W
Councilman Rosselli moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5317 AMENDING RESOLUTION N0, 5268
OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO MODIFICATIONS OF THE SELECT
SYSTEM OF STREETS AND HIGHWAYS OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, seconded by Councilman
Granger.
Staff report stated by Resolution No. 5268, Main Street extension and Brewster
Avenue extension through Motor City and beyond Bayshore Freeway were requested to
be included in the City's Select System, and that the State had ruled that the
extension of Whipple Avenue northeasterly of Bayshore Freeway must also be included
in the Select System in order to justify Main Street being included to complete
the traffic circulation pattern, as all Select System streets must both originate
and terminate at Select System Streets. Motion carried on roll call vote.
Appeal of Louis M. Vianoli, 2264 Roosevelt Avenue, for extension of time to construct
sidewalk on Main Street near Chestnut, presented for Council's consideration.
Staff report stated appellant had been advised by Department of Public Works to
construct a new sidewalk in front of his vacant lot on Main Street near Chestnut,
and that he requested an extension of time pending construction of a building
on this site as soon as he could dispose of his business in San Francisco and
relocate it here.
Councilman Granger moved to grant the extension requested, seconded by Councilman
Petersen. On question, Councilman Bury questioned length of extension of time.
Councilman Rosselli indicated motion should be amended to include a stated exten-
sion limit, of thirty or sixty days. Councilman Petersen agreed to amend motion
but felt sixty day extension not sufficient to cover building plans, and con-
struction of new sidewalk prior to construction of a building might result in new
sidewalk being damaged during building construction, and declined to amend his
motion for either of these specific extension limits.
City Manager stated Council should be made aware that City put owner on notice
of defective sidewalk condition and might therefore be subject to liability in
case of accident at this location, and would recommend that extension be granted
for as short a time as possible, unless City could be adequately protected an
interim. He suggested possibility of a temporary measure being taken to reduce
hazards.
Director of Public Works confirmed hazardous condition of sidewalk in front of
this property, with sidewalks on two adjoining parcels in good condition, but also
advised he had talked with Mr. Vianoli and that he had agreed a thirty day extension
of time would be adequate. Councilman Petersen agreed to amend his motion for
extension of time for thirty (30) days only, since Mr. Vianoli had agreed this would
be ample time for replacing sidewalk. There being no objection from maker of motion
to amendment proposed, motion carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-51)
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO, 5318 ESTABLISHING AND DECLARING DESIG-
NATED ENTRANCES TO DESIGNATED INTERSECTIONS TO BE STOP ENTRANCES; AND, ELIMINATING
CERTAIN HERETOFORE ESTABLISHED STOP ENTRANCES, seconded by Councilman Rosselli.
Staff report stated stop signs were requested on Alden Street, Samson Street,
Hopkins Avenue, Standish Street, and Howland Street, entering onto Winslow Street,
NAF 20,67
