It was <br />stated recommended action had been approved by the Traffic Bureau several years <br />ago when Industrial Way extension was planned. On question, Councilman Bury out- <br />lined a traffic problem he felt existed at Whipple -Industrial Way intersection by <br />location of traffic island on northerly side of Industrial Way making left turn _ <br />difficult from Easterly direction, and felt hazardous situation would be com- <br />pounded, if easier traffic flow made possible. Mayor Herkner asked that vote be <br />taken on the motion and this island problem be discussed further thereafter. <br />Motion carried on roll call vote. <br />Councilman Bury, in view of action taken to create easier access through intersection <br />of Whipple and Industrial Way, moved that Staff be instructed to investigate <br />possibility of relocating traffic island on northerly side of Industrial Way to <br />make left hand turns from Whipple into this street less difficult, and report <br />back, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-52) <br />Council.man�Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5319 APPROPRIATING $775 FROM UNAPPRO- <br />PRIATED BALANCE OF SALES TAX CAPITAL EXPENDITURE FUND TO PROVIDE FOR PURCHASE OF <br />FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT FOR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Henderson. <br />Staff report stated Department of Public Works wished to purchase a self - <br />balancing level costing $774.29 for which no funds were available in their <br />Equipment Account. City Manager further reported on use which could be made of <br />another level of this type to permit separation of survey team and accomplish <br />twice the amount of work. Motion carried on roll call vote. <br />Councilman Rosselli moved to approve hiring Secretary to the City Manager at the <br />Second Step as requested, seconded by Councilman Keckley. It was reported a qua- <br />lified applicant had been selected for this position, and Personnel Board had <br />recommended hiring at the Second Step ($549) subject to approval by the City <br />Council. Councilman Henderson confirmed Personnel Board recommendation as she had <br />been present during this discussion as a Council Committee representatives, even <br />though this position was no longer covered by civil service rules and regulations. <br />City Attorney advised this procedure required,by the Salary Ordinance not the <br />Personnel Ordinance. Motion carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-53) <br />DAMAGE CLAIM of Bernice E. Kovach, 1277 Windsor Way, for property damages alleged <br />to have been caused by condition of a City Street, denied and referred to insurance <br />carrier on motion of Councilman Petersen, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and <br />carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-54) <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />Peninsula Transit Lines notification that they were in process <br />of analyzing the Redwood City division bus operations with the <br />expectation of either making another drastic cut in service — <br />or possibly abandoning the operation entirely.
