Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5345 APPROVING PLANS AND <br />SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF REDWOOD CREEK CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS, VIRGINIA <br />AVENUE TO EL CAMINO REAL, GENERAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT 1-65, PROJECT SD -11, AND <br />AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR, seconded by Councilman Bury <br />and carried on roll call vote, Councilman Rosselli being noted absent. <br />Councilman Bury moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5346 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND NECESSITY REQUIRE <br />THE ACQUISITION AND CONSTRUCTION BY THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY OF A PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT, <br />NAMELY, STORM AND FLOOD WATER DRAINAGE FACILITIES, IN AND UPON THAT CERTAIN REAL <br />PROPERTY HEREIN DESCRIBED; THAT THE ACQUISITION OF A RIGHT OF WAY AND EASEMENTS IN <br />SAID REAL PROPERTY HEREIN DESCRIBED IS NECESSARY FOR SAID PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS: <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO BRING AN ACTION IN EMINENT DOMAIN TO ACQUIRE SAID <br />REAL PROPERTY AND TO APPLY FOR AN ORDER OF IMMEDIATE POSSESSION OF SAID REAL <br />PROPERTY: AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEPOSIT MONEY FOR <br />IMMEDIATE POSSESSION OF SAID REAL PROPERTY, seconded by Councilman Keckley and <br />carried on roll call vote, Councilman Rosselli being noted absent. <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />- Copy of League of Women Voters of South San Mateo County to <br />Board of Supervisors urging all jurisdictions concerned to <br />review effects of the new Administrative Research Park pro- <br />posed by Stanford University in South San Mateo County. <br />(Submitted to Council previously) <br />Mayor Herkner asked that Council members review this communication. <br />Communication from Barbara McCann and Robert Buickerood of <br />Committee for Year 99 Committee for Redwood City Centennial, <br />requesting aid from City for clean-up activity program and <br />to be maintained for future good housekeeping of the downtown <br />business area for: <br />(1) Industrial cleaning of downtown sidewalks at least once <br />during the April 24-30 week and regularly thereafter. <br />(2) Provision of needed water outlets so that merchants <br />can wash their sidewalks. <br />(3) Provision of additional trash cans where needed to help <br />with the prevalent litter problem. We recommend redwood <br />trash containers and redwood stake covers for present cans, <br />together with an attached breakdown of estimated costs which <br />would be involved for City to provide these services. <br />Mayor Herkner reported he had attended a number of meetings which had been <br />held with the Centennial Committee on this subject and felt this should be <br />reviewed carefully, as costs would be expensive. <br />Councilman Henderson stated she would submit an advertisement used by the City of <br />San Mateo concerning a cleanup week program available as a public service, which <br />she felt might be considered by Redwood City. Note was made of the report from <br />City Manager concerning a "clean-up" program planned for City, April 29-30, which <br />he stated had been confirmed by those participating and which would be publicized <br />in the local press. <br />Appreciative acknowledgment of Council's commemorating <br />Resolution from Mrs. Gertrude Sagehorn in her recent <br />bereavement in the loss of her husband. <br />U. S. Senator George Murphy acknowledging receipt of <br />Council's Resolution relating to Highway Beautification <br />Act and giving assurance Council's views would be remem- <br />bered when the Senate began its deliberation on the <br />legislation. <br />Warren M. Dorn, First Vice -President, Los Angeles County <br />Supervisors Association of California, submitting a dissent <br />to portions of the Report and Recommendations of the Governor's <br />Commission on the law pre-emption which was hoped could be <br />supported ty the Redwood City Council.
