Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5345 APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF REDWOOD CREEK CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS, VIRGINIA AVENUE TO EL CAMINO REAL, GENERAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT 1-65, PROJECT SD -11, AND AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR, seconded by Councilman Bury and carried on roll call vote, Councilman Rosselli being noted absent. Councilman Bury moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5346 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND NECESSITY REQUIRE THE ACQUISITION AND CONSTRUCTION BY THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY OF A PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT, NAMELY, STORM AND FLOOD WATER DRAINAGE FACILITIES, IN AND UPON THAT CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY HEREIN DESCRIBED; THAT THE ACQUISITION OF A RIGHT OF WAY AND EASEMENTS IN SAID REAL PROPERTY HEREIN DESCRIBED IS NECESSARY FOR SAID PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS: AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO BRING AN ACTION IN EMINENT DOMAIN TO ACQUIRE SAID REAL PROPERTY AND TO APPLY FOR AN ORDER OF IMMEDIATE POSSESSION OF SAID REAL PROPERTY: AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEPOSIT MONEY FOR IMMEDIATE POSSESSION OF SAID REAL PROPERTY, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried on roll call vote, Councilman Rosselli being noted absent. COMMUNICATIONS: - Copy of League of Women Voters of South San Mateo County to Board of Supervisors urging all jurisdictions concerned to review effects of the new Administrative Research Park pro- posed by Stanford University in South San Mateo County. (Submitted to Council previously) Mayor Herkner asked that Council members review this communication. Communication from Barbara McCann and Robert Buickerood of Committee for Year 99 Committee for Redwood City Centennial, requesting aid from City for clean-up activity program and to be maintained for future good housekeeping of the downtown business area for: (1) Industrial cleaning of downtown sidewalks at least once during the April 24-30 week and regularly thereafter. (2) Provision of needed water outlets so that merchants can wash their sidewalks. (3) Provision of additional trash cans where needed to help with the prevalent litter problem. We recommend redwood trash containers and redwood stake covers for present cans, together with an attached breakdown of estimated costs which would be involved for City to provide these services. Mayor Herkner reported he had attended a number of meetings which had been held with the Centennial Committee on this subject and felt this should be reviewed carefully, as costs would be expensive. Councilman Henderson stated she would submit an advertisement used by the City of San Mateo concerning a cleanup week program available as a public service, which she felt might be considered by Redwood City. Note was made of the report from City Manager concerning a "clean-up" program planned for City, April 29-30, which he stated had been confirmed by those participating and which would be publicized in the local press. Appreciative acknowledgment of Council's commemorating Resolution from Mrs. Gertrude Sagehorn in her recent bereavement in the loss of her husband. U. S. Senator George Murphy acknowledging receipt of Council's Resolution relating to Highway Beautification Act and giving assurance Council's views would be remem- bered when the Senate began its deliberation on the legislation. Warren M. Dorn, First Vice -President, Los Angeles County Supervisors Association of California, submitting a dissent to portions of the Report and Recommendations of the Governor's Commission on the law pre-emption which was hoped could be supported ty the Redwood City Council.
