Mayor Herkner indicated his agreement with Councilman Bury and desire to request
Sign Committee to consider an amendment to the present Sign Ordinance if it now
precluded allowing this type of sign, if Council approved. After further dis-
cussion as to merits and reasons for desiring any change in the Sign Ordinance,
Councilman Granger moved that Sign Committee be requested to further study the
present Sign Ordinance to determine if an amendment in order to allow similar
signs, held merit, seconded by Councilman Bury.
Mayor Herkner asked for clarification of the motion proposed. Councilman
Granger indicated motion intended mainly for Sign Committee to consider amendment
to present ordinance for making possible a variance procedure. Councilman Bury
felt this particular sign situation would have to be faced many times in the
future when considering large developments, and felt it might be reviewed in this
respect. Councilman Keckley advised Sign Committee had completely studied this
ordinance only recently during the similar situation of the Gemco signs and Com-
mittee recommended complete compliance with the present Sign Ordinance and felt
it unnecessary to review the ordinance further at this point.
PUBLIC HEARING, Resolution of Intention of the City Council to amend Section 31.7,
Ordinance No. 1130, relating to excavations and grading declared open and affi-
davit of publication ordered filed.
City Council by Resolution No. 5301, adopted March 6, 1967, referred their recom-
mendation for an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance relating to certain grading and
excavation controls to the Planning Commission for consideration. Planning Com-
mission report read in which it was reported a public hearing had been held on
proposed amendment and recommended unanimously the following amendment:
"Any application filed for a use permit pursuant to the terms
of this section shall be accompanied by the following:
(a) A map showing the natural or existing contours of the
site and the proposed contours which shall show the slopes of
excavation and fills. Contour lines shall be shown at the
following intervals: (1) Six inch contour interval for ground
slopes between level and two percent; (2) one foot contour
interval for ground slopes between two percent and five percent;
(3) five foot contour interval for ground slopes exceeding five
percent. The elevations of all points used in determining the
contours shall be indicated.
(b) A preliminary soils report preapred in accordance with
Article VIII (commencing at Section 30.110) of Chapter 30 of
the Code of the City of Redwood City."
Planning Staff report read in which it was stated, as an alternative to a specific
new ordinance for the control of grading and excavation, the proposed amendment
to the Zoning Ordinance had been prepared as requested by Council to accomplish a
similar purpose. Councilman Henderson questioned whether recommendation for propose
amendment included Staff's recommendation also. City Manager advised amendment
had been prepared by City Attorney at his request only after numerous meetings
had been held with all of the Staff and building and contractor representatives
of San Mateo County, and it was thought would do the job requested.
Councilman Rosselli moved to close the public hearing, seconded by Councilman
Bury and carried.
A xa V
33
