AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CONTRACT FOR SAID WORK AND DIRECTING RETURN OF
SECURITY DEPOSITS, seconded by Councilman Bury.
Councilman Henderson questioned City Attorney on legality of accepting this
bid and was advised how error was made and of the provisions in the bid docu-
ments permitting correction. Motion carried on roll call vote.
Councilman Rosselli moved to introduce ordinance adding Section 20.96.22 to Chap-
ter 20 of the Code of the City of Redwood City relating to vehicular parking
restrictions on Wilson Street. Staff report stated 2 -hour parking restriction
on both sides of Wilson Street was proposed to relieve the acute parking pro-
blem in this business zoned area, due to its close proximity to E1 Camino
Real, Jefferson Avenue, and several businesses at the end of Wilson Street,
involving 22 parking spaces. Motion to introduce withdrawn in order to hear
from those present.
Mr. Wm. Seebauer, Manager of Pacific Telephone Company,
urged parking be left as it is now because of the employees
working in the telephone company offices on Jefferson who
would have to find other places to park.
Mr. Verne Doolittle, owner of one of the businesses on
Wilson, stated he had just bought property in back of
business with frontage on E1 Camino and had provided 11
parking spaces all paved, but urged restriction to 2 -hour
parking as more parking spaces needed for businesses and
property owners. He advised telephone company provided
parking space for their company cars but no allowance
made for cars of employees.
Councilman Bury asked if a compromise might be possible without eliminating
all of the all day parking spaces. Police Captain Mansfield advised parking
lot of telephone company had originally been used for employees until later
marked for company cars only. He also advised of the number of residents
in this area making complaints as to lack of parking in front of their property
due to all day parkers. Councilman Granger moved to introduce Ordinance as
prepared. Motion lost for lack of a second.
Councilman Henderson asked why recommendation not made for one hour parking
to give relief to businesses and also protect residential owners in this area.
Councilman Bury moved to introduce Ordinance if amended to restrict parking
on South side of Wilson Street, between E1 Camino to Franklin Street, to two
hours, other side of street to remain the same for all day parking. Motion
carried on roll call vote, Councilmen Bury, Henderson, Keckley, Rosselli and
Mayor Herkner voting yes, Councilmen Granger and Petersen voting no.
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5349 APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICA-
TIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE SIGNALIZATION, CHANNELIZATION AND LIGHTING FOR
VETERANS BOULEVARD 150' EAST OF MAIN STREET TO MIDDLEFIELD ROAD AND FOR THE
IMPROVEMENT OF BRADFORD STREET, MAIN STREET TO JEFFERSON AVENUE; AND AUTHORI-
ZING CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR, seconded by Councilman Bury.
City Manager advised Staff recommends this action in order that improvements
may be tied in with Motor City project and funds for Bradford Street Improve-
ments authorized in the current Capital Improvement Budget ($60,000 Gas Tax
Funds); funding for Veterans Boulevard work authorized by Ordinance No. 1285
($11,000 Capital Outlay Funds - $47,000 by 2107 Gas Tax Fund) Motion carried
on roll call vote.
IEA 24 'BT
