Robert Whitmore, Chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission, asked what was <br />planned concerning the creek covering in Community Park. In response, the City <br />Manager stated that no recommendation on the matter of this creek appears in this <br />year's Budget, however, by the time next year's Budget is prepared the construction <br />should be sufficiently well along so City will know what funds will be available <br />for this improvement. After further discussion, Councilman Henderson moved to <br />accept Budgets for GID 1,2,3-65, seconded by Councilman Bury and carried. <br />(MINUTE ORDER #67-130) <br />The Capital Improvement Budget was next considered, it being agreed by Council that <br />only those items requiring appropriations in the 1967-68 Budget would be discussed; <br />"- the funds being carried over from 1966-67 would not be considered in detail, unless <br />a member of the Council had a particular objection to an appropriation. <br />The Council asked many questions relative to the Atherwood drainage channel appro- <br />priation, which was carried over from the 1966-67 Budget, ways of correcting the <br />problems in this district were discussed at length. <br />The City Manager requested the Council to add $15,000 to the Veterans Boulevard, <br />Maple Street to Main Street, reconstruction item, gas tax funds, bringing the total <br />to be expended to $81,000. (Memo 6/15/67) <br />The appropriation for the Municipal Service Center Facility was increased from <br />$50,000 to $102,500, bringing the total appropriation for t(Memou6 1ose to 5/67) $752,000. <br />The appropriation for design, acquisition, or construction, Municipal Facilities, <br />was increased from $9,000 to $59,000, bringing the total for this purpose to <br />$84,750. (Memo 6/15/67) <br />Councilman Henderson stated she wished to include in the Budget for acquisition of <br />park property, the purchase of the vacant parcel adjacent to the YMCA on Hudson <br />St. After a preliminary discussion, she agreed to wait and bring this matter up <br />after study of the Capital Improvement Budget was completed. <br />Councilman Henderson moved to delete the item of $1,000 to improve the Stulsaft <br />Park picnic area, seconded by Councilman Bury. Motion lost. <br />The tree planting and City beautification appropriation was discussed. The City <br />Manager explained the need for improvement of the signs leading into Redwood City <br />from the North, particularly on Veterans Boulevard near Whipple. Council agreed <br />tYat the existing sign is unattractive and undesirable and should be removed. <br />A question was raised as to whether or not this sign is placed on private property, <br />and if so, whether the City can cause its removal. The Mayor requested the City <br />Clerk to check on this matter and report. (Memo 6/15/67) <br />Questions were asked about the cost of installation of the sprinkler system for <br />Kennedy School, and if the City had budgeted the full cost without participation <br />by the School.
