b L cJ <br />Mayor Herkner announced discussion he had requested concerning the "Poverty Program" <br />resulted from his concern on report recently publicized which depicted more than <br />half of Redwood City as "poverty pockets" and had felt'the need to challenge such <br />designation, and asked that his proposed public communication be read in full for <br />Council's support and comments. Statement read in full by Mayor Herkner. <br />Councilman Rosselli suggested that discussion of this matter be continued to the <br />regular legislative meeting in view of the large attendance of citizens concerned <br />with this item. Further discussion continued to regular legislative meeting. <br />Minutes of Regular Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />February 6, 1967 8:00 P. M. <br />Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Keckley. <br />Invocation led by Reverend Clifford Hoff, Calvary Baptist Church. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Robert H. Bury, Floyd D. <br />Granger, Mary W. Henderson, Paul C. Keckley, Herbert G. Petersen, John S. <br />Rosselli, Mayor Sidney D. Herkner and City Clerk Helen C. Moore. Also noted <br />present were City Manager Howard C. Ullrich, City ATtorney Richard E. Gardella, <br />Assistant City Manager Henry V. Burget, Police Chief William Faulstich, Planning <br />Director Ken Schroeter, Director of Public Works J. Louis Scherer, Auditor - <br />Accountant Jack Ference, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, and Deputy City Clerk <br />Marian McCrindle. <br />Councilman Granger moved to approve Minutes of January 23, 1967, as corrected. <br />(Councilman Bury questioned assessment theory, instead of Councilman Henderson, <br />under discussion of Resolution No. 5255 approving and authorizing supplementary -- <br />agreement between County of San Mateo and City of Redwood City relative to assess- <br />ing and collecting of taxes and tax assessments - Page 7, Paragraph 4); Minutes of <br />Adjourned Regular Meeting of January 303 1967 (City Manager's Office, 5:00 p.m.,) <br />as mailed, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried. <br />Presentation was made of Certificates of Distinguished Service to Ferris Miles and <br />Leo Crawford, retiring members of the Veterans Memorial Commission, for the past <br />services on this Commission. Mr. Miles spoke briefly on history of this Commis- <br />sion and his pleasure at having been a part of its service to the Community. <br />Continued "Poverty Program" discussion. <br />Councilman Rosselli stated his approval of letter proposed by Mayor Herkner in <br />response to this program and the thoroughly covered pertinent points for which there <br />had been concern expressed. He also stated he was convinced there was a great deal _ <br />of confusion as to why the City Council had not taken an active part in this program <br />but suggested for benefit of those present that Mr. George Riley, Acting Director <br />of the San Mateo Human Resources Commission, be asked to comment on the survey which <br />had resulted in the "poverty report" in Redwood City area. <br />He stated comments he had received evidenced most people interested in what could <br />be done about being excluded from the boundaries of the area set up and accepted <br />by the Human Resources Commission. <br />
