The hours of operation will, of
course, be governed by the law of supply and demand.
Your Committee feels that the greatest use of the system will be made by
persons getting to and from their place of employment. The hours of operation
during the week will provide maximum service for the City's commuter traffic,
while the Saturday schedule is primarily for the convenience of shoppers.
FARES
It is recommended that the fare for the system be established at 250 with an
initial two-week break-in period during which time the fare will be 10¢. The
system will allow a transfer privilege which means, in effect, that a person
may travel the length or breadth of the City for the basic fare of 25¢.
PUBLICITY
It is the opinion of your Committee that the success of the system will depend
rather heavily upon the manner in which it is publicized. The Redwood City
Chamber of Commerce has indicated during recent meetings that its members are
ready, willing, and able to aid in the development of a comprehensive promo-
tional campaign.
We have considered a great many ideas for publicizing the system. In additinn
to a considerable amount of newspaper advertising, we intend to promote the
system in other ways, including soliciting the help of employers in notifying
employees of the availability of service, displaying the vehicles at strategic
locations prior to the initiation of service, and a general gatherin on Satur-
day, March 30th, to which all residents of Redwood City will be invited to
participate in an official ceremony christening the Redwood City Municipal
Transit System.
