430 <br />OF SECURITY DEPOSITS, seconded by Councilman Bury. <br />In reply to questions as to qualifications and reputation of this contractor, <br />Director of Public Works reported they had been checked out favorably. <br />Councilman Bury asked, in view of the fact that bid is so much lower than <br />Engineer's estimate, if surplus funds could be invested in some type of sign- <br />ing in the downtown district to indicate what is being done, the time schedule, <br />and benefits to be derived. He also felt this would help downtown merchants <br />to plan sales to better advantage. City Manager advised he would check this <br />suggestion and report back. City <br />Manager's report to Council advised Richfield is the City's present gasoline <br />supplier, as well as the supplier for San Mateo County, and under the Favored <br />Nation Clause City is presently purchasing gasoline at the same rate received <br />by the County, which is less than our contract price and it was assumed this <br />advantageous rate would continue until June0th when County again received <br />ti RESOLUTION NO. 5629 awarding bid to <br />bids for their gasoline requirements. Motion carried on roll call vote./Richfield. <br />Councilman Bury moved to introduce Ordinance appropriating $17,745 from unappro- <br />priated balance of Off -Street Parking Funds to provide for purchase of park- <br />ing meters; and, authorizing purchase of said parking meters without public <br />bid, seconded by Councilman Keckley. <br />Staff report advised 325 meter head units would be required to replace the <br />remaining old on -street meter heads. Park -O -Meter had advised of a raise in <br />prices to be made for the first time in 20 years whereby cost would be $66 <br />each instead of $52. New meters were needed to replace badly worn ones and <br />Staff recommended funds be appropriated and Council waive the formal bidding <br />procedure in order same type of meters may be purchased for City's use. Motion <br />carried. <br />Appeal of J. E. HUBER from the decision of the Department of Public Works concern- <br />ing street standards in his four -lot subdivision (645 East View Way) presented <br />for consideration. Planning Director advised that certain duties are dele- <br />gated by Planning Commission to the Subdivision Committee for investigation <br />and recommendation. Subdivision Committee had reviewed and approved this <br />subdivision, subject to certain conditions, one of which being improvement of <br />NA4 4 •68 <br />
