Section 9 thereof. On the ballots and on the voting machines <br />to be used art said general municipal election, in addition <br />to all other matters required by law to be printed thereon, <br />shall appear the following: <br />PROPOSITION G: Shall the Charter of the City <br />of Redwood City be amended by <br />amending Section 9 thereof to provide that <br />councilmen shall receive as compensation $150 <br />per month, which amount shall be payable upon <br />ratification by the Legislature of this amendment, <br />but in no event before July 1, 1968? <br />SECTION 9. The Council of the City of Redwood City <br />hereby proposes, on its own motion, to amend the Charter of <br />the City of Redwood City, by amending Section 14 thereof, <br />to read as follows: <br />"SECTION 14. THE MAYOR: <br />"The Council shall choose one of their number <br />to serve as president of the Council, and to be known <br />as Mayor. His term as Mayor shall be two years. The <br />Mayor shall be the executive head of the city. In the <br />name and on behalf of the'city he shall sign all legal <br />instruments and documents to which the city is a party <br />except where otherwise provided herein or by general <br />law or ordinance. He shall represent the city in all <br />ceremonial functions of a patriotic or social character <br />when it appears desirable that the City be officially <br />represented thereat, and shall, consistent with the <br />provisions thereof, possess such other powers and perform <br />such duties, as may be prescribed by this charter, by law, <br />by ordinance, or by resolution of the Council. <br />"The Mayor shall have <br />hundred and fifty dollars <br />need produce no vouchers. <br />a contingent fund of two <br />($250) a year for which he <br />"In case of riot, insurrection, or extraordinary <br />emergency, he shall assume general control of the city <br />government and all of its branches, and shall be <br />responsible for the suppression of disorders and the <br />restoration of normal conditions. <br />"The Council shall choose one of their number to <br />serve as Vice -Mayor. His term shall run concurrently <br />with that of the Mayor. In the absence or disability <br />of the Mayor, the Vice -Mayor shall have all the powers <br />and duties of the Mayor." <br />- 14 - <br />
