The past four City-held elections cost an <br />average of $74,000. Specifically, the City’s past two election costs were: $64,000 for the <br />2013 election and $51,000 for the 2015 election, with the City paying an additional <br />$30,000 for all mail election community outreach. In order to provide future estimated <br />election costs for standalone, and vote by mail elections, the City contacted the San <br />Mateo County Elections Office, which provided the following cost estimates. <br />If the City has a standalone election in 2017 and 2019 it would bear all election costs for <br />materials and administration, estimated at $425,000 per election. A standalone election <br />is a City election that has no overlapping agencies such as school districts, with similar <br />precincts and voting sites holding an election. Election costs include sample ballots, <br />official ballots, mailings, polling places, voting machines, counting software, IT staff and <br />San Mateo County Elections Office staff.
