Mayor Greenalch advised that the EPA stated in November that would begin <br />their testing within a week or two and as of today, January 22nd they had <br />not been to the site nor attempted to answer the scientific questions and <br />Council has a legitimate right to ask them why have they not done so. <br />M /S: Stangel /Buchan to write a letter to the EPA and ask them to do two <br />things: 1) rank the Westport development site using present hazardous <br />ranking system that is currently in effect recognizing that the ranking <br />system could change in the future, and 2) be willing to share the data and <br />assumptions being used under the new model that leads to the conclusion <br />which the EPA has publicly stated would lead to the ranking of this site. <br />Carried by the following roll call vote: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Buchan, Bury, LaBerge, Stangel and Mayor <br />Greenalch <br />NOES: Councilman Murray <br />MINUTE ORDER N0. 90 -007 <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - continued <br />a. Vice Mayor La Berge announced that she, Mayor Greenalch and Councilman <br />Claire are running for reelection this year and have met and agreed to set a <br />campaign spending limit of $5,000 for each of their campaigns in order to: <br />set the appropriate tone for the campaign; allow them to put into action <br />their belief that an effective campaign can be run with a small budget; and <br />underscore their belief that too much money is spent on campaigns. Vice <br />Mayor La Berge suggested that leftover funds be donated to deserving <br />organizations such as drug programs for youth. Vice Mayor La Berge stated <br />she and Mayor Greenalch and Councilman Claire hope this action will <br />encourage other candidates to adopt similar spending limits and also make it <br />possible for more challengers to run for election. <br />b.
