ANALYSIS
Staff contacted five local vector control companies regarding the RFP. Staff received
feedback from three of the five companies that their company does not service sanitary
sewers or creeks. Of the five local companies, only Dewey Services, Inc. and Little
David Pest Control confirmed that they service municipalities.

Dewey Services, Inc. has provided vector control services to various cities within San
Mateo County for nearly thirty years. Dewey is Redwood City’s current vendor and has
provided satisfactory work. Dewey’s proposed rates are within the range seen in the
region. The City of San Carlos currently pays $13.00 per manhole for rodent control in
the sanitary sewer system, and $21.43 per manhole for cockroach treatment. The City
of San Mateo pays $12.50 per manhole for rodent control in their sanitary sewers. The
County of San Mateo paid $13.00 per bait station for their creek vector control program
in 2005. Dewey quoted the City $14.50 per manhole for rodent control and $8.00 per
manhole for cockroach control. As the only responsible and responsive vendor to the
RFP, staff recommends awarding the contract to Dewey at this time.

ALTERNATIVES
City Council may request staff to release another RFP for these services.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for this program are available in the Sewer Enterprise Fund.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section
15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical
change in the environment.

ROBIN KIM
MANAGEMENT ANALYST

RAMANA CHINNAKOTLA
PUBLIC W ORKS DIRECTOR

6.1.A. - Page 2
