Senior Civil Engineer Lowell Sue presented the staff report and invited all
interested parties to attend an informational meeting to be held in the
Community Room of the new Library at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 1990.
Title read. M /S: Stangel /LaBerge
RESOLUTION NO. 11242 DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC INTEREST REQUIRES AMENDMENT
OF THE BOUNDARIES OF UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 1986 -1; PROVIDING A
DESCRIPTION OF SAID BOUNDARIES AS AMENDED; AND STATING THE TIME AND PLACE
FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT
Adopted by unanimous roll call vote.
6. Letter Permit - Kiwanis Carnival, July 4, 1990
Report: City Manager, 3/13/90
The following people spoke in favor of permitting the Woodside Kiwanis A.M.
to sponsor a carnival from July 1 through July 4, 1990:
Philip Wang, 5 Miller Ct., Redwood City, representing the Woodside
Kiwanis A.M.
Ronald Koeper, 560 Geneva, Redwood City
Ed Voss, 1620 Connecticut, Redwood City
Joseph Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City, advised Council the
Carnival created too much noise and attracted the wrong element to the
downtown area.
Peter Hughes, 18 Admiralty Place, Redwood City, representing the Peninsula
Celebration Association expressed his discomfort with more than one
organization planning and directing the large 4th of July celebration in
sponsorship of the parade, festival and fireworks.
Paul Sanfilipo, 138 Woodsworth Avenue, Redwood City, advised that in 1985
when the Countywide ban on fireworks sales was instituted, Redwood City
service organizations could no longer sell fireworks and lost an important
source of income. At that time the PCA invited the service groups to join
in a festival, following the 4th of July parade, to raise money for their
good works. For the first 3 years the PCA did not charge a fee to the
service clubs in order to engender enthusiasm and support. Discussions of a
carnival centered on rides for small children, and not the kind of carnival
the Kiwanis provided last year. The PCA believes it is more effective to
have all participating service clubs under one umbrella and the the PCA
should be allowed to recover some of the costs incurred from the
celebration.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M/S: Murray / Stangel to continue the regular Council Meeting past 11:00 p.m.
Carried by unanimous voice vote.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reg.
