Contractor in returning the cover to its original position after the inspection has
been made. In addition, the Contractor is required to remove all pebbles and sand
which have collected under the rim of the manhole thereby lessening the
possibility of the manhole cover rattling.
Bait in manholes with tight fitting covers must also be serviced unless prior
authorization is obtained from City or SMCMVCD to relocate the bait to another
manhole at no additional cost to the City.
G. Method of Bait Installation: Foran a loop with tie -wire by passing it through the
hole in the bait block and tying the ends together. It is essential that the loop be
secure and not easily pulled apart.
The bait block shall be suspended from the tie -wire in such a manner that the bait
block end clears the bottom of the manhole ledge by no less than two (2) inches
and no more than four (4) inches. The block shall be positioned above that ledge
which provides the greatest accessibility of the bait to the rodent. At the time of
installation, the back side of the "caution" tag shall be sprayed with red colored
enamel paint.
The other end of the tie -wire must be securely attached to the uppermost manhole
rung. If a manhole rung is not available or accessible, the tie -wire shall be
securely attached to a concrete nail that has been securely anchored between the
concrete sidewall and the manhole cover rim seat. Splicing together short sections
of tie -wire to make it longer is not acceptable.
Attach a "Caution" tag to the tie -wire through the hole in the "Caution" tag.
Position the "Caution" tag so that the lettering on the tag faces the bait block. The
"Caution" tag should move freely along the tie -wire. Attach the tie -wire to the
bait block loop
Under no circumstances shall any of the bait blocks be positioned or maintained
in a position which permits the bait block to work its way into the flow channel of
the sewer main or which could result in flow restriction and possible blockage.
In the event that a bait block breaks away and obstructs the flow in the sewer and
City personnel are required to remove the block from the sewer or manhole, the
Contractor shall pay the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) to the City for
each block removed by the City. The Contractor shall reinstall said block with a
new block at no additional cost to the City.
H. Bait Inspection, Renlacement and Reinstallation: At the time of installation,
reinstallation or replacement of a new bait block, the back side of the "Caution"
tag shall be sprayed with red colored enamel paint. The tag shall be positioned so
that the sprayed side of the tag faces upward and is visible from the manhole
opening.
REV: 01-11-17 MI
ATTY/AGR.2017.003/Dewey Services, Inc. - Vector Control Services
