C. Assistant City Manager Jean presented the economic projections for the City <br />based on this budget. <br />-------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />II. HUMAN ASSISTANCE PROGRAM <br />Mayor La Berge described the Human Services Financial Assistance Program and <br />the Housing and Human Concerns Committee recommendations and invited anyone <br />who wished to speak to please do so. <br />The following people addressed the Council regarding budget requests: <br />Rebecca Cooper, Friends for Youth, Inc., 1741 Broadway, Redwood City, <br />described the program and asked Council to restore the $200 cut from their <br />request which would bring it to the 1989 -90 assistance level of $2,500. <br />Rich Gordon, Youth and Family Assistance, 609 Price Street, Redwood City, <br />described the program and asked Council to restore the $3,500 cut from <br />their request for a total of $30,514. <br />Margaret Marshall, Redwood City Consortium for School Age Child Care /Child <br />Care Coordinating Council of San Mateo County described the program and <br />asked Council to restore the $2,500 cut from their request for a total of <br />$19,504. <br />M /S: Buchan/ to restore the $2,500 to the Child Care Consortium in <br />order to carry out the recently adopted Redwood City Child Care Policy, <br />and withdrew the motion so this item could be considered at the end of the <br />presentations with the other recommendations. <br />Hugh O'Donnell, Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, Menlo Park, described <br />the program, advised Council he understood the financial demands of this <br />budget, and although would like to have the $10,000 originally requested, <br />was grateful for the $8,000 financial assistance. <br />Carolyn Nobles, Target Education and Welfare Council Inc., requested <br />clarification on the TEWCI requests and budget placement. <br />Corinne Centeno, Fair Oaks Community Center Coordinator, described the <br />pass- through funds of $59,803 from the Area Agency on Aging and the <br />operating and maintenance funds for the Senior Center from the General Fund <br />covering the TEWCI line items. Ms. Centeno explained the specific cuts to <br />each organization requesting program funds were necessary to achieve a <br />balanced budget. <br />M /S: Claire /Buchan to provide an additional $6,200 to the Human <br />Services Financial Assistance Program recommended budget from the Reserve, <br />and refer this issue back to the Housing and Human Concerns Committee to <br />allow those members to decide where this additional $6,200 is to be <br />allocated. <br />Budget Study Session Minutes MINUTE BOOK NO. 49 <br />June 23, 1990 Page No. 331 <br />Page 2 <br />
