19 <br /> <br />14.17.4 Vacation leave shall not be accumulated in excess of two (2) years accrued <br />vacation leave computed through the pay period that includes the 31st of <br />December, except upon written authorization of the Personnel Officer. <br /> <br />14.17.5 Upon termination of employment an employee shall be paid cash value of his or <br />her accrued vacation leave at the time of the termination, in accordance with the <br />above schedule. <br /> <br />14.18 Illness During Vacation <br /> <br /> 14.18.1 An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subsequently <br />becomes ill before his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed <br />on sick leave under the following conditions: <br /> <br /> 14.18.1.1 The employee otherwise has the requisite amount of accrued, <br />unused sick leave and otherwise qualifies for sick leave as <br />provided by this Agreement; and, <br /> <br /> 14.18.1.2 The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately <br />following the vacation period; and <br /> <br /> 14.18.1.3 The employee's illness is verified by a statement from an <br />accredited medical doctor for each such day of sick leave <br />requested. <br /> <br /> 14.18.2 When the employee's vacation leave is converted to sick leave, the appropriate <br />credit of vacation leave shall be restored to the employee's earned vacation <br />balance, and a reasonable opportunity to utilize this vacation leave credit shall be <br />provided within the City's existing practices. <br /> <br />14.19 Recognized Holidays <br /> <br />14.19.1 The following are the recognized holidays for employees in the following <br />classifications: <br />- Forty (40) hour Battalion Chiefs <br />- Deputy Fire Chief <br />- Fire Marshal <br /> <br />New Year's Day <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (observed on the third Monday in January) <br />Presidents’ Day (observed on the third Monday in February) <br />Memorial Day (observed on the last Monday in May) <br />Independence Day <br />Labor Day (observed on the first Monday in September) <br />Veterans Day (observed November 11) <br />Thanksgiving Day <br />The Day After Thanksgiving <br />Christmas Eve <br />Christmas Day <br />New Year's Eve <br />6.3.B. - Page 100
