18 <br />14.17 Vacations <br /> <br />14.17.1 All COA unit members shall be entitled to vacation leave, with Fire Chief <br />approval, from the commencement of their employment with the City. <br /> <br />14.17.2 The time during the calendar year at which a COA unit member shall take <br />vacation shall be determined by the Fire Chief with due regard to the wishes of <br />the unit member and with particular regard to the needs of the service. <br />Preference of vacation date shall be given to employees according to their length <br />of service in as reasonable manner as possible. <br /> <br />14.17.3 Full-time employees shall be entitled to annual vacation leave as follows: <br /> <br />Employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (3.077 hours per pay period) that <br />yields eighty (80) hours of vacation at the end of each year of service from the <br />first year through the fourth year. After completion of the fourth year of service, <br />employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (4.615 hours per pay period) that <br />yields one hundred twenty (120) hours of vacation at the end of each year <br />through the ninth year of service. After completion of the ninth year of service, <br />employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (6.154 hours per pay period) that <br />yields one hundred sixty (160) hours of vacation per year through the fourteenth <br />year of service. After completion of the fourteenth year of service, employees <br />shall accrue vacation at a rate (6.923 hours per pay period) that yields one <br />hundred eighty (180) hours of vacation per year through the nineteenth year of <br />service. After completion of the nineteenth year of service, employees shall <br />accrue vacation at a rate (7.692 hours per pay period) that yields two hundred <br />(200) hours of vacation per year. <br /> <br />Battalion Chiefs assigned to twenty-four (24) hour duty shifts shall be entitled to <br />annual vacation leave as follows: <br /> <br />Employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (4.615 hours per pay period) that <br />yields one hundred twenty (120) hours of vacation at the end of each year of <br />service from the first year through the fourth year of service. After completion of <br />the fourth year of service, employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (7.385 hours <br />per pay period) that yields one hundred ninety-two (192) hours of vacation at the <br />end of each year through the ninth year of service. After completion of the ninth <br />year of service, employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (8.615 hours per pay <br />period) that yields two hundred twenty-four (224) hours of vacation per year <br />through the fourteenth year of service. After completion of the fourteenth year of <br />service, employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (9.692 hours per pay period) <br />that yields two hundred fifty-two (252) hours of vacation per year through the <br />nineteenth year of service. After completion of the nineteenth year of service, <br />employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (10.769 hours per pay period) that <br />yields two hundred eighty (280) hours of vacation per year. <br /> <br />Battalion Chiefs temporarily assigned to a forty (40) hour schedule after working <br />a fifty-six (56) hour schedule may retain the fifty-six (56) hour vacation leave <br />bank and accrual rate, provided that vacation leave taken on the forty (40) hour <br />work schedule will be charged to the employee’s vacation leave bank at a rate of <br />one and four tenths (1.4) hours for every one hour of vacation leave taken. <br />6.3.B. - Page 99
