Accident prevention: There have been many accidents, both reported and unreported, at this
intersection, as well as many frightening near misses. We believe a stop sign would improve safety
for all drivers at this intersection.
2. Traffic calming: Because there is no stop sign on Jeter Street, drivers regularly speed on the 400 and
500 blocks of this street. We believe that a stop sign will slow down the speeders and improve safety
for the many small children and older residents who live on these two blocks of Jeter Street.
I must tell you that 31 individuals, representing 21 households, including a114 corners, signed this
petition. We received no rejections from anyone we approached; in fact most signers virtually ripped the
petition forms out of our hands, demanding to know where they could sign. We heard from long-time
residents who have been wanting a stop sign for over 15 years, we heard stories of crushed family pets,
and we heard many heartfelt promises to attend as many Council meetings as it would take to get our stop
sign installed.
And now, it's in your hands. I know you will take action on our behalf.
If you would like to talk to me further about this issue, please contact me at the phone number or email
address below.
Yours trul—
✓/ C
 –....
Elaine Park
650-261-9964
elainepark@comcast.net
cc: Ian Bain, Emily Fagens, Lisa Waddell
Encl: Petition, 4 pages
