2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None <br />3. COMMUNITY PRESENTATION - Examples of Some of Redwood City 2000's <br />Accomplishments and Other Collaborative Efforts. <br />Redwood City 2000 Chairperson Warren Dale thanked the joint boards and the community <br />partners for their time, contributions and hard work that have led to the success of Redwood <br />City 2000. <br />Rosalinda Calderon introduced several young representatives, speaking about the Frontiers In <br />Leadership Program. The overview of the program explained the importance of effective <br />communication skills, conflict resolution and the importance of building leadership skills, <br />particularly, within under- represented groups. Ms. Calderon thanked United Way for funding <br />eight participants. <br />Margaret Marshall announced the long term collaboration of the School Age Mothers Infant <br />Development Program. She explained the program first focused on pregnancy prevention and is <br />now present in 17 schools in the County. A grant was written, funding granted but no facility <br />was available. Redwood City 2000 Director Beth Ross coordinated collaboration to provide <br />funding from the State Department of Education and the Lucille Packard Foundation. Ms. <br />Marshall thanked everyone and announced the grand opening on April 14. <br />Hoover School Principal Roxanne Dragan spoke of the success of the Healthy Start Network. <br />Julie Hannon of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, gave an overview of the new after <br />school programs and the impact during the first months of operation. Redwood City applied for <br />an obtained a grant from the Department of Education. The after school programs are held at <br />Hoover, McKinley and Taft schools providing academic enrichment from teachers, recreation <br />and life skills sessions. <br />Supervisor Rose Jacobs- Gibson acknowledged Supervisor Rich Gordon and Council Member <br />Jim Hartnett for the collaboration in the fields and facilities project soon to be seen in the <br />upgrade of playing fields at Taft and Garfield schools next fall. <br />Bruce Codding, of Redwood City 2000, told about the retreat where approximately 100 people <br />attended to set up ideas during three discussion times with 23 major ideas presented. <br />Former Redwood City Mayor Georgi LaBerge discussed the first Redwood City Performing <br />Arts Festival to be held at Canada College this spring.
