In light of Courthouse Square’s significant positive impact on community life, it is
appropriate to commemorate the vision and sustained effort required to make it a
reality. Staff has reviewed the Monument Policy and concurs that adding a dedication
plaque at the Courthouse Square complies with the criteria set forth within the policy.
Courthouse Square is owned by the County of San Mateo; based on discussions with
County of San Mateo staff, City staff believe the County would support the installation of
a dedication plaque.

Staff recommends that a dedication plaque be placed on one of the Courthouse Square
fountains, visible from Broadway, and recognizes the City Council Members in 2005,
when construction began, and in 2007, when construction was completed and the
Courthouse Square dedicated. Proposed wording for the plaque is as follows:

Courthouse Square was dedicated to the residents of Redwood City and
San Mateo County on February 27, 2007. Construction of our “City’s living
room” began in 2005 and was made possible through the inspired vision,
hard work and perseverance of City officials, community members, and
volunteers.

CITY COUNCIL 2005
MAYOR JEFF IRA
VICE MAYOR BARBARA PIERCE
COUNCIL MEMBER ALICIA C.
