REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />April 24, 2017 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Purchase of nine Ford Police Interceptors <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, waive an irregularity and approve the purchase of nine 2017 Ford Police <br />Interceptors in the amount of $327,978 from Towne Ford of Redwood City, California <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Redwood City’s Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a structure for <br />evaluating vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically <br />advantageous point in their life cycle. At pre-described intervals, vehicles and <br />equipment undergo a thorough evaluation including but not limited to, age, mileage, <br />condition, maintenance history, downtime, anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle <br />capabilities. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Redwood City Police Department has nine vehicles that are scheduled to be <br />replaced in the current fiscal year. Public Works Services (PWS) Department staff met <br />with representatives from the Police Department and determined that all nine vehicles <br />should be replaced with 2017 Ford Police Interceptors as they will meet the rigorous <br />demands of the Police Department. These vehicles will be outfitted with ballistic front <br />doors for the safety of the officers at an added cost of about $5,000 per vehicle. <br /> <br />On Friday, March 24, 2017 a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The Daily <br />News with a bid submission deadline of Friday, March 31, 2017. Copies of the bid <br />notice were emailed to seven local dealerships with additional copies available at the <br />PWS office located at 1400 Broadway Street, Redwood City, CA 94063.
