Tree protection
measures will be under the direction of the City Landscape Architect and equipment is
required to be cleaned before use in another part of the site to prevent the spread
of invasive plants. Replacement trees are required to be replaced at a ratio of three new
trees for each native tree removed and one new tree for each non-native tree removed
and the replacement planting shall be limited to native plants. The replacement trees
are required to be planted within 12-months of project completion. These measures will
ensure the site is replanted with sufficient native plantings to mitigate the removal of existing
trees.

Hazards and Hazardous Materials

Impact: HAZ -1: The use or accidental release of hazardous materials at the project site could
expose the public or environment to significant hazards.

Mitigations: HAZ -1: The following measures, as listed in the ProTech Consulting & Engineering
report titled Pre-Demolition/Renovation Asbestos & Lead Survey & Evaluation, shall be
implemented during demolition activities associated with the existing pump station:
• Prior to demolition, the loose and peeling exterior Lead Based Paint shall be removed from
the pump station building with the remaining paint stabilized.
• The impact of lead to the demolition project should be minimal; however, Cal OSHA worker
protection rules, California Department of Public Health certification requirements, US
EPA standards, and Department of Toxic Substance Control disposal requirements
need to be assessed by each contractor/employer who performs work on this project.
• Any work performed at the site where Lead Based Paint or Lead Containing Paint is likely
to be disturbed should be performed by a contractor trained and qualified to perform lead-
related construction work. Any work that exceeds Cal OSHA’s permissible exposure limit
or is performed to remediate a lead hazard must be conducted by California Department of
Public Health certified personnel. All lead related work shall be conducted employing lead
work practices in accordance with United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development (US HUD) guidelines.
8.A. - Page 14
