REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />June 12, 2017 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Resolution approving temporary street closures for the Fourth of July Celebration <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a Resolution designating event routes for the Fourth of July Celebration <br />sponsored by the Peninsula Celebration Association and the Redwood City Education <br />Foundation and approve the temporary street closures as designated in Exhibit "A" and <br />Exhibit "B" for the Fourth of July Celebration <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA), in partnership with the Redwood City <br />Education Foundation, has requested permission to conduct the annual Fourth of July <br />Celebration consisting of a “Parade Run,” parade, festival, and fireworks display. <br />The annual “Parade Run” will be conducted along the parade route from 8:00 am to <br />9:00 am. The traditional parade will commence at 10:00 am and last until approximately <br />12:30 pm. The arts and crafts fair and festival will be held from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services will sponsor live musical entertainment in <br />Courthouse Square from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. A fireworks display will be held at the <br />Port of Redwood City from 9:30 pm until approximately 9:50 pm. <br /> <br />On July 4th, the parade route and line-up area will be reserved from 6:00 am until 2:00 <br />pm. The arts and crafts fair and festival area will be reserved at 3:00 pm on Monday, <br />July 3rd through 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4th. Courthouse Square will be reserved on <br />July 4th from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. <br /> <br />The parade will be conducted in the areas detailed on the map (Attachment 2) provided <br />by the PCA in its letter dated February 24, 2017. Parade staging areas require road <br />closures throughout the Centennial neighborhood. The festival will be conducted on <br />Middlefield from Broadway to Marshall, Hamilton from Marshall to Middlefield, Jefferson <br />from Marshall to the entrance to the Jefferson parking structure, and Broadway between <br />Main Street and Winslow. Live musical entertainment will take place within Courthouse <br />Square. Minor alterations to the parade route and festival areas may be required to <br />facilitate these events.
