TRANSPORTATION DESIGN
The next step after the transportation improvements have been identified and evaluated
using Value Engineering is to determine the conceptual design of the improvements.
The conceptual design of the improvements will enable BKF to determine the estimated
costs of each of the identified improvements. One of the critical steps in this process is
to determine the extent that the auxiliary lane project will effect the ramps to the
interchanges and what may reasonably be expected to be paid for by the assessment
district as capacity improvements. The following three phases will be taken to
determine the conceptual design of the traffic improvements:
1) Preliminary Investigations
2) Conceptual Designs
3) Finalize Conceptual Designs
The following provides a brief discussion of each of the phases associated with the
conceptual designs:
2.1 PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS
2.1.1 During the traffic analysis phase, BKF will conduct preliminary investigations in
an effort to develop conceptual plans for the proposed interchange projects and
other related roadway projects. A major aspect of this phase of work will be
identifying the extent of the auxiliary lane project and whether or not any capacity
improvements may be made as part of the proposed auxiliary lane projects. BKF
will gather all of the relevant material including, but not limited to:
1) Project Reports and Studies
2
- 0r--
