The total base bid of <br />$311,111.11 from G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc. is approximately 4% lower than the <br />engineer’s estimate of $325,000 for the cost of construction. Based upon the bids <br />received, staff believes that the low bid of $311,111.11 is reasonable and responsive, <br />and recommends awarding the contract to G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc. <br /> <br />If approved, construction of the Marine Parkway Spot Repair Project is anticipated to <br />begin this summer. Notification of the proposed work will be distributed to surrounding <br />residents and business owners in advance of the start of work. Large message boards <br />will be placed on site in advance of the start of the work to notify motorists. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The City Council may choose not to award the construction contract and direct staff to <br />redesign and/or rebid this project. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The funding for this project is contained within the proposed Fiscal Year 2017-18 <br />Capital Improvement Program budget. This budget is scheduled for City Council review <br />and approval on June 26, 2017. If approved, funds for the Marine Parkway Spot Repair <br />Project will be available July 1, 2017, and will be appropriated in the Gas Tax <br />Construction Fund. If the budget for this project is not approved as proposed, staff will <br />not move forward with the project as proposed, and may come back to the Council with <br />an alternative project or funding source. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />As the lead agency for CEQA compliance, the City of Redwood City has determined <br />that the project meets the CEQA exemption criteria as set forth in Section 15301 <br />(Existing Facilities).
