Stewardship of Native Trees — Multi Family
Winner: Palm Gardens Condominium, Geri Kennedy, Manager— Roosevelt
6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR
Kathy Schrenk stated this evening upon her return home at approximately 7:00 p.m.
she learned that a dog belonging to her neighbor across the street was killed by a
speeding car. She reminded Council that about 6 months ago she had spoken about
an automobile crashing into a tree in front of her house causing injuries and
acknowledged that the Police Chief and Council were responsive at that time. That
resulted in a better situation for 4 to 6 weeks while extra patrol efforts were in place
but at this time the speeding is back to normal all hours of the day and night. She
stated that her understanding is speed bumps and stop signs are not an option at
the site.
Andy Frisch, Redwood City International volunteer, invited the community to the
Mexican Independence Day celebration on Thursday, September 16 at the Veterans
Memorial Senior Center from 5:30 -8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 and can be obtained
at the City Managers Office or Parks and Recreation Department. He thanked the
following sponsors: Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission, Bay Area Bank, The
Danford Foundation, Norcal Waste Systems, Pete and Paul Uccelli Foundation and
the San Mateo County Credit Union.
Dr. Monir Siam asked for assistance in obtaining a shower and washroom for the
homeless people in Redwood City. He further stated his wish to provide indoor
activity time and good behavioral instruction and that the Salvation Army agreed to
provide some service if the City could fund $350.00 to $400.00.
Joe LeClair, representing People for Housing Not High- Rises, stated that his
comments were not on the merits of the project. He expressed his dismay and
disappointment about a circular that the Marina Shores developer (Glenborough-
Pauls), Mayor Ira and Vice Mayor Pierce mailed out to the public in Redwood City.
He stated that the referenced 61 % of the project being open space includes streets,
sidewalks, parking spaces and private open space areas that will not be open to the
general public. At best, he stated the information is inaccurate, at worst, it is
misleading and the City Council should not be a party to this type of campaign
literature.
M/S Hartnett/Howard to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the
ordinances by title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other
items. The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote by those present with
Council Member Ruskin absent.
CITY COUNCIL AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
JOINT MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 13, 2004
PAGE 4
MINUTES Book No. 60
Page No. 308
