PUBLIC HEARING - appeal of Planning Commission's <br />denial of an exception to Subdivision Ordinance, <br />240 Alameda de las Pulgas (203 -10) <br />Reports: Planning Commission Report to the City Council 3/20/89 <br />Letter from Marilyn Muratore, 250 Alameda de las Pulgas 1/20/89 <br />Letter and Petition from adjoining property owners Lynott, <br />Scholes, Muratore, Claire 3/15/89 <br />Councilman Claire stepped down from Council chair and took seat in the <br />audience. <br />CLARIFICATION: City Attorney Schricker determined that Councilmember Claire <br />was entitled to address the Council as a private citizen having disqualified <br />himself from the deliberation and decision regarding this issue. <br />Mayor Greenalch declared the Public Hearing open at 8:03 p.m. and invited <br />anyone who wished to speak to do so. <br />Steve Carpol, 1000 Marshall St. Redwood City, attorney for the appellant <br />Michael Murphy asked Council to grant appeal citing the existence of other <br />flag lots surrounding this property; the unreasonableness of the required 35' <br />foot frontage; the resulting 2 lots would be larger than the minimum lot <br />required for R -1; the need for moderate housing units in Redwood City; <br />the ideal characteristics of this property for elderly or handicapped <br />housing, being flat, close to Sequoia Hospital and bus lines; driveway would <br />be engineered for safe ingress and egress; and owner would agree to sign and <br />record covenants guaranteeing one -story structures on both lots to assure <br />privacy of neighbors on all sides. <br />The following citizens spoke in favor of granting appeal: <br />George Davenport, 215 Upland, Redwood City citing many flag lots in the <br />neighborhood. <br />Elizabeth Pollard, , 246 Nevada, Redwood City Realtor citing need for <br />moderate housing. <br />Mike Quirk, 2608 Ohio, Redwood City Realtor citing need for moderate housing <br />and unreasonableness of 35' frontage. <br />The following citizens spoke in favor of denying appeal: <br />Reg.Mtg.
