Item No. 1 (continued)
James Leiva, 635 Hudson Street, Redwood City described lack of back yard area
and need for 6' fence in front to provide safe play area for his family, keep
his watchdog fenced -in and to protect his property from vandalism. Mr. Leiva
produced pictures showing many similar fences in the neighborhood.
Mr. Talbot, Roosevelt, Redwood City expressed his dislike of the fence
for aesthetic reasons.
Tony Powers, 1717 Jefferson, Redwood City described the fence as creating a
threat to children walking by due to impaired visibility of drivers exiting
or entering driveway next to fence.
In response to questions from Council Tom Passanisi described Mr. Leiva's
options of reducing the fence to required 3' , changing latticework to "open
construction" resulting in 5' fence (3' solid base and 2' open) or moving the
fence back 15' and maintaining its height.
M /S: Bury /Murray to close the public hearing.
Carried by unanimous voice vote and public hearing closed at 7:50 p.m.
M/ S: Murray /LaBerge to deny appeal of denial by Zoning Administrator for
existing 6 foot high fence, 635 Hudson Street, Redwood City and accept
findings.
Findings are as follows:
1. The 6 foot height exceeds the maximum height limit of 3 feet for solid
board fences in the required front yard. The trellis portion is
classified as solid board under the definition of solid fences.
2. The fence also exceeds the maximum 3 foot height allowed when adjoining
driveways. This height is required to allow sight clearance for
automobiles exiting from driveways.
Carried by unanimous roll call vote.
MINUTE ORDER N0. 89 -45
------------------------------------------------------------ - - - - --
2.
