LSA ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />SEPTEMBER 2016 <br />ROCKETSHIP REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT <br />INITIAL STUDY/ MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION <br /> <br /> <br />P:\RWC1401B Rocketship School\PRODUCTS\IS-MND\Public\Rocketship Public Review 09-29-16.docx (09/29/16) PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT 106 <br />existing 8-inch PVC sanitary sewer line is located within the vicinity of the site within Charter Street. <br />The site is currently served by a 6-inch sanitary sewer pipe that connects from the project site to the <br />City’s PVC sanitary sewer line within Charter Street. The proposed project would construct a new 6- <br />inch sanitary sewer line to connect to the City’s PVC sanitary sewer line. The new sanitary sewer line <br />would be constructed in conformance to City standards. Based on current wastewater patterns at other <br />Rocketship schools, it is estimated that the proposed project would generate approximately 822 <br />gallons of wastewater per day (see Section XVII.d). The proposed project would connect directly to <br />the existing sewer lines, which would have sufficient capacity to accommodate the proposed project; <br />therefore, this impact would be less than significant. Also refer to Section XVII.a. <br /> <br />Water Infrastructure. Redwood City’s potable municipal water supply is provided by the <br />Hetch Hetchy regional water system operated by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission <br />(SFPUC). The City’s water infrastructure system consists of a network of pipelines, storage <br />reservoirs, and pump stations. There are 13 metered connections to four SFPUC pipelines located in <br />Redwood City. There are also 10 emergency interties with California Water Service Company, Mid- <br />Peninsula Water District, and the City of Menlo Park. The potable water system has 265 miles of <br />distribution mains, 12 storage reservoirs, 10 pump stations, 2,397 fire hydrants, and 26 pressure <br />reducing valves ranging from 2 to 6 inches in diameter.121 <br /> <br />The current SFPUC water supply delivered to Redwood City comes from the Tuolumne River and <br />local Bay Area reservoirs. This water (referred to as “Hetch Hetchy water”), is conveyed through <br />pipes and tunnels to the Bay Area and requires only primary disinfection and pH adjustment to <br />control corrosion in the pipelines. Monitoring the quality of the imported Hetch Hetchy supply is <br />conducted by the SFPUC. Water that is delivered to Bay Area reservoirs receives filtration and <br />disinfection treatment at either the Sunol or the Harry Tracy filtration plants. Filtered water from <br />these treatment plants may be commingled with unfiltered Hetch Hetchy water in Bay Area transmis- <br />sion pipelines. Water is continuously monitored and tested by SFPUC to ensure that water delivered <br />to customers meets or exceeds federal and State drinking water and public health requirements. <br /> <br />The City updated its Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) in 2010, which was adopted in 2011. <br />According to UWMP, The total capacity of Redwood City’s 12 water storage facilities is 21.24 <br />million gallons and the storage facilities are in excellent condition. Additional water storage tanks are <br />also planned. Future water demand cited in the Plan is based in part on the 2010 General Plan land <br />use and population projections.122 <br /> <br />The City also assumes that its recycled water project will meet anticipated recycled water demands in <br />the year 2030, as indicated in the 2005 UWMP; the recycled water system has been designed to meet <br />this future demand.123 The recycled water project includes a system capable producing and delivering <br />up to 3,238 AFY.124 <br /> <br />121 Redwood City, City of, 2010.
