<br /> (3) Pay the dollar amount computed in step 2 to the <br /> worker by the first pay period in February immediately <br /> following the calendar year during which the sick <br /> leave was earned; and <br /> (4) Add the remaining seventy-five percent (75%) of the <br /> unused sick leave computed in step 1 to the worker's <br /> accumulated sick leave credits; and <br /> (5) Drop any accumulated sick leave credits in excess of <br /> nine hundred and sixty (960) hours. <br />20.1.7 If a worker terminates for reasons other than death, retirement or <br /> discharge, compensation in lieu of unused sick leave shall be paid <br /> in accordance with the terms provided for a worker who may elect <br /> to receive compensation in lieu of sick leave credits, prorated to the <br /> date of termination of service. Workers who retire from City <br /> employment with benefits from PERS or who die while in the <br /> employ of the City shall be eligible to receive twenty-five percent <br /> (25%) of accrued unused sick leave. In the event of the death of a <br /> worker, such payments shall be made to the designated beneficiary <br /> filed with the Director of Finance, or, in the event no designated <br /> beneficiary has been chosen, the beneficiary listed in the worker's <br /> insurance policy will receive the payment of such unused sick leave <br /> as provided under the provisions for a worker who elects to receive <br /> compensation in lieu of sick leave credits. Workers discharged shall <br /> not be eligible for payment of unused sick leave. <br />20.1.8 If a worker's illness results in an absence from work for three (3) or <br /> more consecutive days, a doctor's certificate or other reasonable <br /> proof of illness may be required by the City. <br />20.1.9 If a supervisor believes there is an abuse of sick leave, the <br /> supervisor may require the worker to provide medical verification <br /> for all future sick leave absences for a period of 90 days. Prior to <br /> implementing this provision the worker and the worker's <br /> representative shall, upon request, be given the opportunity to <br /> meet with the supervisor to show cause why this provision should <br /> not be invoked. Material relating to the sick leave use will be <br /> available to the worker and his representative prior to such <br /> meeting. <br /> 31 <br />
