<br /> (1) day for each calendar month of service. <br />20.1.2 Sick leave shall be defined as the non-job related absence from <br /> work due to illness, bodily injury, exposure to contagious disease, <br /> and caring of family members whose illness requires the worker's <br /> care. <br />20.1.3 Unused sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum sick leave <br /> credits of Nine Hundred and Sixty (960) hours. <br />20.1.4 In the event a worker has accumulated the maximum sick leave <br /> credits of Nine Hundred and Sixty (960) hours, and the worker <br /> becomes so severely ill that he/she exhausts his/her sick leave, the <br /> Human Resources Director may, upon written recommendation to <br /> the worker's Department Head, authorize additional sick leave to <br /> include any sick leave in excess of the Nine Hundred and Sixty <br /> (960) hours maximum which may have been lost due to the <br /> maximum limitation; provided, however, that sick leave credits were <br /> not accumulated for a period of six (6) months or longer. <br />20.1.5 A worker may elect to receive compensation in lieu of sick leave <br /> credits for any calendar year by requesting payment of unused sick <br /> leave in writing to the Director of Finance on or before December 1 <br /> of that year. Payment shall be made at twenty-five percent (25%) <br /> of the value of the unused sick leave for that calendar year at the <br /> salary for the year the payment is being made and shall be made <br /> after December 31. There shall be no payment in lieu of <br /> accumulated sick leave benefits for years prior to such calendar <br /> year. <br />20.1.6 Accumulated sick leave credits shall be reduced by the value of the <br /> sick leave compensated as provided in the above paragraph and <br /> the remaining balance shall be accumulated to a maximum of Nine <br /> Hundred and Sixty (960) hours. In the event a worker requests <br /> payment pursuant to this Article, the City shall perform the <br /> necessary computation steps in the following order: <br /> (1 ) Compute the number of unused sick leave hours for <br /> that calendar year; and <br /> (2) Compute a dollar amount equal to twenty-five percent <br /> (25%) of the value of the unused sick rate of pay for <br /> the calendar year during which the sick leave was <br /> earned; and <br /> 30 <br />
