<br /> brother, half sister, step brother, step sister, mother-in-law, father- <br /> in-law, grandparent, grandchild, and stepfather, stepmother, <br /> stepchild in those cases where direct child rearing-parental <br /> relationship may be demonstrated to have existed. <br /> 20.3.3 I n the event of the death of an active City worker, the City will <br /> excuse (without loss of pay) those workers who wish to attend the <br /> locally conducted funeral only to the extent it does not interfere with <br /> the operation of the City. <br />20.4 Military Leave <br /> The provisions of the Military and Veterans Code of the State of California shall <br /> govern the granting of military leaves of absence and the rights of workers <br /> returning from such leaves. <br />20.5 Paternal Leave of Absence Without Pay <br /> 20.5.1 A male or female worker shall be granted a leave of absence <br /> without pay to fulfill parenting responsibilities for up to one (1) year <br /> following the child's birth or one (1) year following the filing of <br /> application for adoption and actual arrival of a child in the home. <br /> 20.5.2 The worker on leave shall be returned to his/her original position or <br /> if that position is not in existence, to an equivalent position within <br /> his/her classification. <br /> 20.5.3 A parental leave, absent physical disability, is granted without pay <br /> for the duration of leave. The worker may elect to continue medical <br /> and dental insurance coverage for up to one (1) year during this <br /> leave at his/her own expense. <br /> 20.5.4 A worker may incorporate a portion of his/her parental leave into <br /> provisions of the Family and Medical Leave Act, as described in <br /> Article 20.13. <br />20.6 Leave for Pregnancy Disability <br /> 20.6.1 Workers who are working are entitled to use personal illness and <br /> injury leave for disabilities caused or contributed to by pregnancy, <br /> miscarriage, childbirth, and recovery therefrom on the same terms <br /> and conditions governing leaves of absence for other illness or <br /> medical disability. Such leave shall not be used for child care, child <br /> rearing, or preparation for childbearing, but shall be limited to those <br /> 34 <br />
