<br /> criteria reasonably related to awarding increased compensation on <br /> the basis of merit. An adjustment shall be made only upon the <br /> recommendation of the department head and upon approval ofthe <br /> City Manager. <br /> 7.2.3 Increases within the salary range established for the classification of <br /> Firefighter shall be administered as follows: initial appointments <br /> shall normally be made at the first step in the salary range. With <br /> continued satisfactory performance, an employee in the classification <br /> of Firefighter may be eligible for a salary increase to the second step <br /> after a six (6) month interval. With continued satisfactory <br /> performance, an employee in the Firefighter classification may be <br /> eligible for a salary step increase at twelve month intervals between <br /> the second and third steps, between the third and fourth steps, and <br /> between the fourth and fifth steps schedule. <br />The status quo shall be maintained regarding the payment ofFLSA overtime. The City <br />shall also maintain the status quo on the payment of regular overtime as prescribed in <br />Section 7.6 of the current MOD. <br />7.3 Captain Compaction Adjustment <br /> Effective the first of the pay period closest to January 1, 1998, Captain's salaries <br /> shall be increased by 5%. <br />7.4 Work Schedule <br /> The regular workweek for employees in the classification of Fire Fighter and <br /> Captain shall be fifty-six (56) hours on existing work schedules. The work <br /> schedule shall consist of eight (8) twenty-four (24) hour on-duty periods within <br /> a twenty-four (24) day cycle to be worked in accordance with the following <br /> chart: <br /> X = 24 hour on-duty period <br /> o = 24 hour off-duty period <br /> XOXOXOXOOOOXOXOXOXOOOOOO <br />7.5 Starting Time <br /> The regular starting time for Fire Fighters and Captains scheduled for a fifty-six <br /> (56) hour workweek shall be 8:00 A.M. <br /> 11 <br />
