<br /> of service, employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (10.769 hours per pay <br /> period) that yields two hundred eighty (280) hours of vacation per year. <br /> In the event an employee ofthe Fire Department regularly assigned to a twenty- <br /> four (24) hour duty shift is temporarily assigned by the Fire Chief with the <br /> approval of the City Manager to a forty (40) hour workweek, vacation leave for <br /> such employee shall continue to be credited at the fifty-six (56) hour rate. Such <br /> appointments and accrual credit shall not exceed ninety (90) calendar days, <br /> except by mutual agreement between the Union and the City. This provision <br /> does not apply to those employees who are assigned to a light duty assignment <br /> due to a non-industrial injury or illness. <br />9.6 Vacation leave shall not be accumulated in excess of two (2) years accrued <br /> vacation leave computed to the 31st of December, except upon written <br /> authorization of the Human Resources Director or hislher designee. <br />9.7 Upon termination of employment, an employee shall be paid the cash value of <br /> any unused vacation leave which has been credited to said employee pursuant to <br /> MOU Section 9.3. <br />9.8 Vacation Scheduling <br /> Sign up will commence on November I st of each year for the following year. <br /> Sign up shall be according to seniority in rank on each shift. The senior Captain <br /> and the senior Fire Fighter will make their pick, then the second senior Captain <br /> and the second senior Fire Fighter will make their pick, etc., until all personnel <br /> on that shift have made their first pick. The second round pick is made in the <br /> same fashion. These first two rounds of vacation picks shall be in four (4) shift <br /> increments at a minimum. <br /> Upon completion ofthe first two (2) rounds of vacation picks employees will be <br /> permitted to schedule the balance ofthe earned vacation benefit in twelve (12) <br /> hour increments, providing that the twelve (12) hour increments start at 0800 <br /> hours or 2000 hours. <br /> Vacation may be used in shorter than twelve (12) hour increments, with a <br /> minimum of one (1) hour, except, during the hours of 0800 and 1600 vacation <br /> must be taken in a four (4) hour minimum, starting at 0800 or 1200 hours, <br /> provided that an employee fulfills the training requirements. Ifa four (4) hour <br /> vacation through a twelve (12) hour vacation is requested and approved, the <br /> leave requested by the employee will be used by the employee. <br /> Ifa vacation of less than twelve (12) hours is requested and approved, and the <br /> department will be in an overtime situation, the employee requesting the short <br /> leave will be required to find hislher own reliefup to the completion ofhislher <br /> last shift prior to the approved leave.
