TA. - Page 73
LSA ASSOCIATES, INC. ROCKETSHIP REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT
SEPTEMBER 2016 INITIAL STUDY/MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION
sufficient daylight in the building. The entire building would contain approximately 60 skylights; all
learning spaces would include natural light with little need for supplemental electrical lighting. In
addition, the existing interior concrete slab would be polished; eliminating the need for additional
floor tile material and the existing wood trusses and roof joints would be exposed; eliminating the
need for additional ceiling tile material. The project sponsor also proposes implementing a school
recycling program that includes providing black trash bins, blue recycling bins and green composting
bins in each classroom. The Redwood City campus would be the first of all the sponsor's school
facilities to conduct on site composting. Furthermore, future students would be provided the
appropriate instruction on how to sort waste accordingly.Teaching materials and supplies would also
be recycled. The proposed project would also provide incentives to encourage carpooling and the use
of alternative modes of transportation.Bicycle racks with a capacity of up to 28 bikes would be
located on the project site.
As previously discussed, the proposed project does not exceed the BAAQMD threshold of significance
for GHG emissions. The BAAQMD approach to developing a threshold of significance for GHG
emissions is to identify the emissions level for which a project would not be expected to substantially
conflict with existing California legislation adopted to reduce Statewide GHG emissions. The project's
GHG emissions are below this threshold, and, therefore, would not conflict with California legislation
related to greenhouse gas emissions. As described above, the project would also be consistent with the
Redwood City Community Action Plan;therefore, the project would not conflict with any applicable
plan, policy or regulation for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Potentially
Significant
Potentially Unless Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
VIII.
