5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY -- <br />A. Proclamation: "Lights On After School Day" — Christopher Beth, Parks and <br />Recreation Department (207) <br />Mayor Ira read and presented the proclamation. Superintendent Beth explained <br />the program to be celebrated on Thursday, October 14 at Taft School, one of the <br />eight grant provided after school programs. It is an open house between 5 -7 p.m. <br />with representatives and parents from each school. He further thanked all the <br />partners in the program. Council Member Hartnett emphasized that the Redwood <br />City Elementary School District is particularly involved in community building and <br />partnership with others and City. He stated that their leadership is visionary and <br />goes beyond teaching. <br />B. Status of Yellow Ribbon Committee -- Tiffany Teele, Redwood City Liaison <br />Ms. Teele thanked the Council for its support and gave a status on <br />accomplishments since the adoption in August of the Headquarters Company, <br />Screaming Eagles, First Brigade out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. She asked the <br />community to advise the committee of any family member or friend currently <br />deployed in Iraq. Information should include the name of a local person as a <br />point of contact and an APO and unit number for the soldier. She further stated <br />that anyone wishing to become involved in the program can contact her at 650- <br />400 -6764 or tiffany(a .us The next meeting is <br />scheduled for Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Activities <br />Building at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue in Redwood City. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Greg Greenway, representing the Redwood City /San Mateo Chamber of Commerce, <br />reported that the Chamber recently presented a check for $31,000. to Kainos as a <br />result of the annual Wells Fargo Golf Tournament. The check represents the single <br />largest donation that Kainos receives which is an outstanding organization that works <br />with developmentally disabled adults. He thanked all those who participated and <br />thanked Kainos. He announced the first annual Leadership Alumni Reception and <br />Hall of Fame induction.
