16.20 Illness During Vacation <br />16.20.1 An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subsequently <br />becomes ill before his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed <br />on illness leave under the following conditions: <br />16.20.1.1 The employee otherwise qualifies for illness leave as provided <br />by this Agreement; and, <br />16.20.1.2 The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately <br />following the vacation period; and, vacation period; and, <br />16.20.1.3 The employee's illness is verified by a statement from an <br />accredited medical doctor for each such day of illness leave <br />requested. <br />16.20.2 When the employee's vacation leave is converted to illness leave, the <br />appropriate vacation credit shall be restored to the employee's earned vacation <br />balance, and a reasonable opportunity to utilize this vacation credit shall be <br />provided within the city's existing practices in order to avoid loss of vacation <br />credit. <br />16.21 Recognized Holidays <br />16.21.1 The following are the recognized holidays: <br />New Year's Day <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (observed on the third Monday in January) <br />Washington's Birthday (observed on the third Monday in February) <br />Memorial Day (observed on the last Monday in May) <br />Independence Day <br />Labor Day (observed on the first Monday in September) <br />Veterans Day (observed November 11) <br />Thanksgiving Day <br />The Day After Thanksgiving <br />Christmas Eve <br />Christmas Day <br />New Year's Eve <br />16.21.2 Two administrative holidays and such other days as may be proclaimed local <br />holidays. At the option of the employee, an employee may receive pay at the <br />employee's straight -time rate of pay in lieu of one or both of the administrative <br />holidays at eight (8) hours per administrative holiday. Payment shall be made to <br />the employee by the first pay period in February. <br />
