Both stressed <br />the importance of engaging businesses, business associations, nonprofits, labor <br />groups, local government agencies and the community at-large. Staff plans to conduct <br />significant outreach efforts to communicate and obtain feedback. The recommended <br />community engagement and outreach strategy entails a two-pronged approach of face- <br />to-face interactions with stakeholders and community members and the use of online <br />survey tools and communication activities to solicit feedback. <br /> <br />As outlined in the work plan presented in May 2017, Attachment E, over the next four <br />months, staff will undertake the following outreach and communication initiatives to <br />obtain community input: <br />· Conduct an online business survey in partnership with the Chamber of <br />Commerce to better target the business community (Attachment F) <br />· Issue an online community survey <br />· Make presentations to the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Group <br />and the Redwood City Improvement Association <br />· Conduct three business outreach meetings/roundtables with businesses, non- <br />profits, and government agencies <br />· Conduct two community outreach meetings on minimum wage <br />· Mail postcards to every Redwood City business with a City business license on <br />file promoting the City’s business survey <br />· Meet with the California Restaurant Association, healthcare officials, hoteliers, <br />education officials, and labor leaders <br />· Visit small businesses in Redwood City <br />· Establish a City webpage with information on the City’s efforts to study the issue <br />and engage the business community, including FAQs. <br />· Use other communication channels including social media platforms (Nextdoor, <br />Facebook, Twitter), email newsletters, print newsletters, and purchasing <br />advertisements in local newspapers, including Spanish and Chinese publications <br />· Translate educational materials in Spanish and Chinese <br /> <br />Members of the Finance and Audit Sub-committee also expressed interest in <br />conducting outreach to businesses and community stakeholder groups and promoting <br />opportunities for people to be engaged in the process <br /> <br />The community engagement and outreach process will culminate with a presentation of <br />stakeholder and community member input and feedback to the City Council in February <br />2018. <br /> <br />Estimated City Impacts <br />A preliminary review of the types and number of current City employees that could be <br />affected by an increase in the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour indicates a total of 226 <br />full-time equivalent employees (FTE) concentrated in classifications in three <br />departments: Administrative Services (2 FTEs), Library (34 FTEs), and Parks, <br />Recreation and Community Services (190 FTEs).
