Item No. 14, (conti nued ) <br />Geri S. Mayers, 2303 Broadway, questioned the reported results of studies on <br />the negative effects of secondhand smoke to non - smokers. Ms. Mayers <br />suggested the burden of enforcement is too heavy for small business and asked <br />that a survey be conducted to determine if people want smoking regulated and <br />that more consideration be given to the ordinance before adoption. <br />Marie Rickes, 3015 East Bayshore, urgd Council to place a measure on the <br />ballot to find out if people favor the ordinance. <br />Mayor Greenalch noted for the record that all legal notice has been given; <br />that public comment was heard at Council meetings of May 16 and June 6, 1988; <br />that all four newspapers covering Council actions gave the subject full <br />coverage; that the survey made by the Chamber of Commerce publication <br />indicates that 70% of those surveyed favor smoking regulations; and that all <br />correspondence received by Council members on the subject favor the <br />regul ati cns. <br />Title read.
