The
Evidence and Property Unit has complied with all the requirements set forth in California
Government Code Sections 50050 to 50055 regarding the purge of unclaimed money
and the $53,445.82 is ready to purge. The Police Department is seeking authorization to
use these funds to purchase the police protective equipment.
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council could decide not to approve the use of the funds purged from the
Evidence and Property Unit to purchase the protective equipment and direct staff to
deposit the money in the General Fund.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Police Department has identified $53,445.82 in the Property and Evidence Unit
currency purge that could be used to complete the purchase. The remaining cost would
be paid using funds already existing in the Police Department budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in the CEQA Guidelines, section
15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical
change in the environment.
