Oral Communications (continued) <br />Nita Spangler, 970 Edgewood Road, thanked Community Development Director Pawloski <br />and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Griffiths and city <br />staff for their work on Union Cemetery and extended an invitation to everyone to <br />participate in a walk through Union Cemetery on Veterans Day, November 11, 1988, <br />10:00 a.m. <br />Kaye Wiseman, Kainos Home and Training Center Program Director, brought the award <br />"In recognition of exemplary community service in the finest American tradition" <br />presented to Kainos by President Reagan and loaned it to the City for temporary <br />display in City Hall. <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />1. Responsibilities of the Office of the City Clerk <br />MS: LaBerge /Buchan to appoint the City Manager as Acting City Clerk <br />Carried unanimously on voice vote. <br />la. Councilwoman Buchan advised that Sunday's New York Times featured an article <br />on Redwood City's Downtown Farmers Market. <br />lb. Councilwoman Buchan advised she attended the Redwood City Youth Drug Advisory <br />Coalition on 10/29/88 which offers many different activities as alternatives <br />to drugs, and invited everyone to attend the next meeting to be held at <br />McKinley School on 11/19/88. <br />lc. Councilwoman Buchan attended the police department open house. <br />ld. Councilwoman Buchan reported on the 49er PYC Facility Committee meeting which <br />recommended seniors and Canada adaptive programs have access to 1st floor, <br />of 49er Building and youth sports groups and NFL Alumni have use of the <br />PYC Building. These and other recommendations to be presented to Council in <br />near future. <br />le. Councilman Bury also attended PYC facility meeting and commented on <br />recommendations. <br />lf. Councilman Bury reported on the successful fund raiser sponsored by the <br />Soroptomists for Kainos at the Sofitel Hotel on 11/5/88. <br />lg. Councilman Bury reported attending the last day of the Downtown Farmers <br />Market and asked Council to consider doing something special for them in the <br />future. <br />lh. Councilman Murray reported on the Regional Planning Commission meeting he <br />attended on 10/30/88, advising he asked for a delay on the vote proposed by <br />Roger Chinn, Chairman of the Airport /Community Roundtable to have the RPC <br />recommend a study to fill in the Bay sufficient for 2 more runways. <br />Councilman Bury to supply additional material.
