MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />a. Councilman Bury commended the Jenkins family of 1694 Cordilleras Road for <br />their wonderful Christmas display that captures the spirit and fun of <br />Christmas in Redwood City; and also commended the families on Dewey Street <br />who have brought back Candy Cane Lane. <br />b. Vice Mayor LaBerge thanked Corinne Centeno, Community Center Coordinator, for <br />the Christmas party held at the Fair Oaks Community Center for over 300 <br />children who made crafts and enjoyed a puppet show by Children's Librarian <br />Chuck Ashton and Fair Oaks Librarian Valentin Porras. <br />c. Councilwoman Buchan reported on the successful 12/13/88 meeting at the Fair <br />Oaks school to discuss drug problems in the area, attended by Mayor <br />Greenalch, Vice Mayor LaBerge and Councilman Claire, parents, teachers, and <br />representatives from Sheriffs Department encouraging residents to speak out <br />and get involved. <br />d. Councilwoman Buchan on behalf of herself and Vice Mayor Laberge, thanked <br />Park, Recreation and Community Services Department for their efforts and for <br />their Christmas luncheon. <br />e. Mayor Greenalch commended Councilwoman Buchan for her hard work and efforts <br />with neighborhood groups, and advised Councilman Claire's report of 12/13 <br />meeting will be postponed to a later date. <br />f. Mayor Greenalch commended Councilman Stangel as Chairman of the Housing <br />Rehabilitation Program Loan Committee, its members, staff members Mike <br />Church, Debbi Jones - Thomas and Elizabeth Jones, and the entire housing staff, <br />and advised that Redwood City has been selected to receive an Award for <br />Excellence for outstanding performance in the Rental Rehabilitation Program <br />presented by the U. S.
