N <br />The following Resolution was introduced by Trustee Hynding, who moved its adoption <br />seconded by Trustee Deleau. <br />SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROAD OIL. <br />RESOLVED, <br />by the Board of Trustees of the Town,of Red:fooa City, that the following specifI Ltions <br />be, and the same are hereby adopted by said Board of Trustees as the standard speolfioatlois for <br />road oil to be used in the construction or repair of oiled macadam streets in said Town of RedwQe <br />Redwood City. <br />(A)OIL. <br />----- This material must be a heavy asphaltic oil prepared from California products, <br />and must be free from6 ad—mixtures with any residue obtained by the artificial distillation <br />of coal, coal tar or paraffins ail, and must conform to the following requirements. <br />(B) WATER. <br />---------- It shall not contain more.than one half ( ) of one per cent water by volume. <br />(0) SEDIMENT. <br />----------- It shall not contain more than one half ( a ) of one per cent sediment <br />by volume. <br />(D) VOLATILITY. <br />---------------- When twenty—five grams placed in a round flat bottoi¢ed tin dish , standari <br />for such tests, is evaporated in a Blackmar or Richardson or equivalent type of asphalt <br />oven, maintained at a uniform temperature of 220 degrees Fahrenheit, (105) degrees <br />Obntigrade, for one hour, it shall not lose more than seven tenths of one per cent. <br />(E) SOLUBILITY. <br />-------------- It must, when free from water, be soluble to at least ninety—nine and <br />five tenths in pure carbon bisulphide or chlofoform. <br />(F) SOLUBILITY IN GASOLINE. <br />--------------------------- The asphalt prepared as hereinafter specified, having a <br />penetration between sevsnty—five and eighty degrees , District of Columbia standard, <br />shall be'soluble in California Gasoline as hereinafter specified to the extent of'at least <br />eighty --five per cent , when one hundred and, fifty cubic centimeters of gasoline are <br />poured on five tenths of one gram of the asphalt.in solution,of one cubic centimeter of <br />carbon bisulphide and shaken for ten minutes. This test shall be made at about 77 degrees <br />Fahrenheit. <br />(G) SOLUBILITY --IN TETRA—OHORIDE. <br />----------------------------- .— As a test for injury in over heating in preparation <br />the asphalt shall be soluble to not more tV n three per cent less than in the carbon <br />bisulphide solubility test, Par.(E) <br />(H) .GASOLINE. <br />------------- The Gasoline herein specified shall be between sixty (60.0) and sixty and <br />six tenths (60.6) degrees Baume at a60 F. <br />O <br />Between fifty—eight (58.0) and sixty—one (61.0) per cent shall distill and pass out of <br />condenser at two hundred and twenty—five (225.0) degrees Fahrsnhelt. Not less than three <br />(3.0) nor more than four (4.0) par cent sha31 remain in the still at three hundred and <br />thirty (330.0) degrees Fahrenheit. <br />The rate of distillation shall be not less than one (1.0) nor more than two (2.0) drops <br />per second. The.amoa4.t taken for test shall be two hundred and fifty (250:0) cubic <br />centimeters. <br />APPARATUS. <br />---------- The apparatus to be used in making the diatillaticn test of gasoline, shall <br />consist of a glass fractional distillation flask and condenser, a nitrogen filled mercury <br />thermometer (corrected scale), a No.1 Maker burner , two pieces of NO -20 mesh wire gauze, <br />20.3 O.M. in Dia. and an asbestos cylinder 36.8 O.M. High x 17.8 O.M. Dia made of <br />asbestos 1.5 M.M. thick. The distillation flask shall conform to the following measuremeits. <br />Cap. 1000 O.C. Dia at bawl, 12.7 O.M., Dia at neck, 3,1 O.M. , Dia of tubular, ..9 C.M. <br />
