Redwood City,March 3rd.1920.7-30 O'clock.P.M. <br />Regular adjourned meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Town of Redwood City held. <br />Upon roll call there were present,Trustees;- President Carl K.Mabie-M.E.Ryan-Geo.W. <br />McNulty-J.C.Jones-City Clerk W.A.Price: <br />On motion of Trustee Mc.Nulty,seconded by Trustee Kreiss, the minutes of regular meeting <br />held IvZarch Ist.1920 be dispensed with,Motion Carried. <br />Moved by Trustee Ryan, the office of Chief of Police be declared vacant,their being no <br />second to said motion same was lost, then followed a discussion between Trustee Ryan <br />and Kreiss,Trustee Jones stated he had heard several different stories about the Allen <br />Brothers shooting and he did'nt believe in convicting a man without a hearing,"I would <br />like to have a hearing in this matter and find out just what did happen Sunday night',' <br />Trustee.Kreiss,after speaking highly of the efficiency of the police department , <br />stated that the criticism directed against Offi.cen Coleman was the result of an unfoundee. <br />rumor circulated about the city following the shooting that the Chief had been notified <br />Sunday afternoon by the Allen brothers of their suspicions that their store was to be <br />burglarized that night and that he had failed to acquaint the night officer with the <br />facts, thereupon Trustee Kreiss stated he would like to hear from the Allen brothers, <br />if they were present,Homer and Frank Allen then came forward and gave an account of tie <br />shooting,in answer to Trustee Kreiss' question as to wlat time it was when they notified <br />the the Chief of Police as to their suspicions that the store was to be robbed Sunday <br />night, they said it was about ten minutes to nine Sunday night,"When Chief Coleman was <br />asked to watch the place"said Homer Allen,"he told us he did not have a man,but that he <br />would be down as soon as he could change his clothes and that he would notify the night <br />watchman",He did not have time to get down to the shop or notify his man when the affair <br />took place," The Allens exonerated the chief of all blame and complimented him for <br />volunteering to personally guard their premises when he was off, duty, theysaid they were <br />proud of Redwood's police dexa rtment,Frank Allen who was shot by Officer Larracou highly <br />complimented the night officer for his bravery.,he said «I do not blame anyone,If your <br />night watchman had blown my head off he would only have been doing his duty, I am glad <br />that Ore have a man who is not afraid to look a I2 -gauge Winchester in the muzzle and will <br />go right ahead and pull the trigger of his -own gun, My gun was four Feet from Larrecou's <br />nose when he cut loose and he got all he could see of me, I am glad our city has such <br />good protection" Trustee Kreiss said he was glad that the board had been able to get <br />the story straight and -that from the evidence presented he could see no reason for <br />condemnation of the police, This ended the hearing. <br />Report of Trustee Mc.Nulty in regards to the purchasing of runabout for Police <br />Department was on motion of Trustee Jones,seconded by Trustee Kreiss same be considered, <br />and on motion of Trustee Jones,seconded by Trustee Kr'eiss, the auto be purchased, and the <br />Clerk be authorized to draw a warrant for payment of same,11otion Carried. <br />Idoved by Trustee Kreiss,seconded by Trustee Ryan we do now adjourn,Motion Carried. <br />City Clerk. <br />
