321
The following communication Was received from the San Francisco Steel Products Company; -
San Francisco,
Nov.5, I.92I.
Honorable Board of Trustees,
Redwood City,Calif.
Gentlemen;
Acknowledging receipt of letter of .October 2Ist.from Mr.Albert Mansfield, and
letter from Mr.W.A.Price of the first instant. rn
We would infer from these two.letters that you.feel you have misplaced the
confidence you bestowed upon us in placing your recent pipe contract with this concern.
We regret that you should have taken this biew of the matter and believe you
will see it is not altogether justified atter considering all the. facts.
As a•metter of fact we have recently dared to enter the •field under our own
dictum and have elected to quote such prices as we saw fit without consulting such others
who have -flourished for so long in the sale of Cast Iron ,Pipe on the Pacific Coast".
The matter referred to by MrMansfiled was called to my attention recently upon
my return, from Seattle and I assure you a thorough investigation took place immediately.
It develops that a new'employee'who has been handling our checking account. did himself
certify two checks using his own initials, which were attached to two bids, It has been
my custom to pay the small current expenditures with checks drawn on the Anglo Paris
National Bank and I have always left a number,of signed checks on hand in the book for
this purpose. Our regular account is with the Anglo: -California Trust Company and the
checks attached to these bids should have been drawn -on and taken to that bank for their
certification.
We assure you we do not sidestep any responsibility caused by an employees
stupidity and wish to complete this contract for•you in good faith.
We would respectfully, ash that you do not let any outside influence from others
concerned tend to magnify this thing, We will furnish you at once with a certified check
you should have had with the bid, drawn upon the Anglo -California Trust Company.
However from the tome of Mr.Mansfield's letter of .October 2Ist my office
assumed that the contract was cancelled -and have since sold and delivered the -pipes which
were enroute to us for your account.
We will wire our Foundary immediately however upon advises from you .and can rush.
another lot of pipes for your order promising a delivery at Redwood City around December
' 2 0th.
Trusting that this will clear any.misunderstanding that may have existed between;
us and that you will write us fully if this does not,we remain,
WIOtE
blank
encl/check on
Anglo -Calif
Trust Company
Very truly yours
S.F.Steel Products Company.
by W.I.Osborne.
Ori motion of Trustee•Kreiss, seconded by Trustee McNulty the foregoing letter be received
and filed,' and the contract of the S.F.Stee.l Products'Company be recinded on account of
check not being properly certified to and the pipe being sold.19otion Carried.
Application of Mrs.Joe Casaretto for permission to move a building from corner of
Broadway and State Highway to Lot iJ 18 in Block 6=Dingee Park,on east side of Birch St*
said permit was granted on motion of Trustee McNulty, seconded by.Trustee Kreiss provided
they live. up to the City Ordinance.
I
Communication from Redwood City Post # 105 American Legion thanking the Board for
granting them a permit to show therW.E.Goff Shows was on motion of TFustee Tuchsen,
seconded by Trustee Kreiss same be received and filed.Motion darried.
Application of Redwood Parlor # 66 N.S.G.W. for permit to hold a dance in Forester's
Hall Saturday evening November 12th.192I until one o'clock was on motion of .Trustee
Mabie, seconded by Trustee McNulty said permit be granted,Motion Carried.
Application of ITorvin Grove No -52 U.A.O.D. for a permit.to hold a dance in Foresters
Hall on Saturday evening November 26th.until one o'clock was on motion of Trustee Maisie
seconded 'by TFu.stee McNulty same be granted,Iviotion Carried.
Application of Court-'Iadrone No.158 F.of A.for a permit to hold two dances in
Forester's Hall on Saturday evening November Igth. and Wednesday evening November 23rd.
1921 was on motion of Trustee Tuchsen, seconded by Trustee McNulty said permit for both
dances be granted until one o'clock ,Motion Carried.
Application of Redwood City Post No.I05 American Legion for a permit to hold a
one o'clock dance in forester's Rall on Thursday evening November IOth.192I,was on motioh.
of Trustee Idabie, seconded by Trustee McNulty said permit be granted,Motion Oarried.
Application of A.Dal Poggetto for a permit- to hold a twelve o'clock dance at 130¢ ill
}
E, Camino Real on Saturday evenings, November I2th. and Igth.was granted on motion of Trustee
W
