Redwood City,March 2I,1919.
To The Honorable,The Board of Town Trustees,
Redwood City,Calif.
Gentlemen; In view of your published intention to open up and improve Center Stree
in this City, and to construct a bridge across Redwood Creek, thereby making Center Street
one of the chief arteries of traffic to and froth the east and south sections of the town,we
the High School and Grammar School Principals, representing the interests of the school
children of Redwood City, respectfully beg leave to submit the following points for c.onsid-
aration of your honorable body.
I.Center Street is comparatively narrow street, not over 60 feet, passing between the
High School and the Central Grammar School buildings.can
2.That there are practically 500 children in the Central Vram'tar'-,Sohoo1, and I20
in the High School, and that the east side pf the Grammar sehool, yard, running along Center
street,is used by the very small children of the grammar school as their play ground.
3.That it is now, and will be in the future, impossible tp prevent some of these
children chasing the ball pr other play thing into the street when it leaves the yard.
¢.That when Center Street shall have been made a public throughfare there will be no
safety for the children of either school on the school yards.
5.With the possibility of the fire house being located in the vicinity of the Town
Hall every time the fire engine uses the street between the school buildings it will
constitute a grave danger to the child life of the community.
6.With the protection and welfare of the school children of Redwood City as our
only object in presenting these podmts for your consideration we therefore ask you to close
Center Street entirely to traffic from Broadway to Redwood geek, and that no bridge for
traffic be constructed overt%this creek.
We are -
very respectfully,
S.P.MeCrea.
