had some witnesses which he would like to have heard as they were out of town people.
A Mr. F.L.Haskins, owner of a fox farm near Millbrae, spoke on his experiences relative
to fox farms. The other witnesses were to come before the Council at the regular time
for hearing protests.
Discussion of the work under this resolution was again brought before the Council and
a letter from the Southern Pacific Company was read by the Clerk in which that
corporation took the stand that if they were to pave the portion inside and con-
tiguous to the track that nothing more should be asked 6f them, City Manager
Rolison and Mr. Figel, of the Portland Cement Company, reported the willingness
of the Cement Company to assist in the paving of Chestnut Street by a donation
of cement, and the Clerk was instructed to write a letter of thanks to the company.
After discussion, upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant,
it was decided to separate the work under Resolution of Intention M-6 and to divide
the -work so that part of it would be for Maple and Lathrop Streets, and another job
for Chestnut Street, with instructions to the City Engineer to bring in revised
plans and specifications for the separate jobs with the idea that the City tarould
absorb the cost of the former advertising.
Considerable discussion was had as to the burden of assessments for property owners
on the east and west sides of Chestnut Street and finally on motion of Council-
man McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hinman, it was decided to pro -rate these
items on a ratio of 18 to 13.
Councilman McCarthy spoke about the insect pests on certain trees and especially
those belonging to the City and suggested that the City undertake, if practicable,
the cost of spraying, etc. The City Manager indicated that there was already
in the Parks' budget an item of $500 some of tirhich could be diverted. Upon
motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, it was decided that
the City should bear the cost of such eradication to be done under the supervision
of the City Manager and Superintendent of Parks.
Councilman Hinman reported concerning the trees on Iris Street and recommended that the
situation did not seem of sufficient importance to remove them and suggested that
the matter be left in the hands of the City Manager.
Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Clerk was
instructed to write a letter of thanks to the Southern Pacific Company in
appreciation of their willingness to improve the grounds adjacent to their tracks.
Upon motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seooftded by Councilman Mollulty, the bills were
' t
ordered paid.
Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded.by Councilman McNulty, the reports of the
various departments were ordered filed.
Adjournment.
City C:
DCD
i
