410 I MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL JUNE 150 1931 8:00 PM Upon roll call, the £ollctving Councilmen were present: Mayor D R S tafford, H A Beeger, W J Dusel, H B Hinman, C J Hildebrant, P A McCarthy, G W McNulty. City Clerk B E Myers. The minutes of the meeting of June 1st were approved, on motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. Upon the request of Judge Ed McAuliffe permission was given for.him to leave the State , on vacation, on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Dusel, On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, Councilmen McNulty and Beeger were given permission to leave the State on their vacations. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce embodying report of its committee for the purpose of eliminating unsightly buildings was ordered filed. A letter from In7s. W.P. Roth for the San Mateo County National Horse Show Association was ordered f iled. As was also the letter and copy of report from the Department of Public Health, State of California. On motion of Councilman Hinman, seconded by Councilman Beeger, the application of A. Roman to conduct a pool hall at 2303 Highway, corner of Willow Street, was granted. The Clerk read a communication from W.F. Durand, president of the Peninsula Grade Crossing Conference, requesting the participation of Redwood City o4ficials in a meeting to be held in Palo Alto on the 24th. Instructions were issued to write Mr. Durand that Redwood City would be properly represented. The Clerk was also instructed to write the Planning Commission concernir_� this meeting. City Attorney Mansfield for the three commissioners, L.A. Heiner, W.T. Kellogg, and E.B. Fox presented final report and assessment roll for the opening and extension of Iiudson and May Streets for filing. Grant U. Wood appeared before the Council in connection with his request for permit to gather junk and after explaining the circumstances and his plans, upon rpotion of Councilman Hinman, seconded by Councilman Beeger, he was given a temporary permit to gather and sell junk i revocable at the pleasure of the Council; the license fee to be waived. Councilman Beeger asked if it mould not be a good idea to place signs at the intersection of Broadway and Jefferson Avenue because of the dnager from the rapid traffic coming in from the Bay Shore Highway. This matter was referred to the City Manager. It Uouncilman McCarthy explained about the danger of traffic on Hopkins, Brewster and Whipple Avenues and thought "slow" signs should be installed. The Chief of Police was asked to investigate and report. The Chamber of Commerce by its secretary, Howard Wood, filed a letter containing a report of tre general committee on playgrounds and recreation sites, as follows: "Resolved, that this committee recommend to the City Council of Redwood City, that a special Bond issue be submitted to the voters of the City during the month of September, 1931, in the amount of 065,000 to acquire and equip recommended recreational areas."
