426 MINUTES OF REGULAR I1EETING RE7V00D'CITY COUNCIL SEPT. 21, 1931 8:00 P M Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: H A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, Geo W McNulty, C G Lambert. City Clerk B E Myers. Absent, Councilmen: Mayor D R Stafford, Paul A. McCarthy. In the absence of Mayor Stafford, Councilman Beeger was chosen to serve as Chairman. The minutes of September 8 were approved, on motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. C.R. Burkhart of Burlingame, who had submitted a letter at the previous meeting, was. present and made personal application for permission to occupy the old Foley property on Broadway for the purpose of an automobile sale and show place. Upon motion of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Dusel, he was granted permission to use the building for the purpose indicated subject to approval of the building inspector and with the understanding that no gasoline or oil would be sold on the premises. The City of Santa Cruz extended to the I;iayor and Council an invitation to be present on October 3 to enjoy a celebration of their 162nd birthday party. The Clerk was instructed to write them that the Council appreciated the invitation but that our local Chrysanthemum Festival would be presented on the same day and it would be desirable that they remain in Redwood City. A letter from the Alan Hammond Nichols Post No. 69 of Palo Alto thanking the Council for its cooperation in connection with the showing of Cimarron was ordered fledi Application of Ers. Rosa Cavalli for adjustment in connection with certain improvements that had been burned was laid over until the next meeting with instructions to the Clerk to get the value of the improvements affected. Miss Harper, librarian at the Public Library, submitted copies of the annual report for each Councilman and the Clerk was instructed to write the Library Trustees expressing the appreciation of the Council for what had been done in connection with the progress of the Library. A petition signed by something like one hundred people calling attention of the Council to the need at the Yacht Harbor for public drinking fountains, washroom and restrooms was ordered filed and the matter referred to the City Manager. In connection with the letter of the Redwood City Ice Delivery taken up at the meeting of September 8, the City Attorney explahed that upon investigation the Universty Creamery did not seem to be violating any provision of the zoning ordinance and there was nothing for the Council to do in this matter. The Clerk read a letter from Howard Wood for the Citizens Harbor Development Committee referring to the desirability of forming a port district, to include Belmont, San Carlos, Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto, Woodside and Redwood City. The Council went on record as approving the project and referred the matter to the City Manager to make arrangements. Capt V. C. Lewis, representing the Order of Moose, asked permission to use the flag pole holes in the sidewalks in frontcE business houses for the purpose of advertising a R 1
